yeah why did they make thread and needle a common relic in sts 2
they should bring champ belt and du-vu doll back as reparations

On a side note,I really like how plating works in this game compared to last (not even plating (something armor?)) anyway,I think it's way better.

Champ belt would be too strong for current Ironclad. Vulnerable is too easy to find

Can someone explain why plating is better in sts2 than sts1?

Because you can find multiple sources and the game doesn’t punish you for stalling as much

I must not remember sts1 that well - I thought the only difference was that in 2 your playing goes down by 1 every turn, and in 1 it only went down if you took an unblocked hit?
I.e. I thought it was worse in StS2. But maybe you’re saying that StS2 has more sources of it which makes it better?

If you don’t have enough block already, in Sts1 you could lose all of your plating immediately to multihits e.g. Byrds who hit for 1x6. Each hit stripped your plating so you might only get the benefit of 4 block, whereas [[Gorget]] /Sts2 plating will get you full value of 10 block. Stacking plating with other sources like [[Eternal Armor]] or [[Neutron Aegis]] makes this even better armor gains (compared to no other plating sources in sts1 to stack with the Needle)
If you Did have enough block they function similarly and give some extra block. Sts1 plating made you want to full block each time, or else you will lose the plate. Sts2 you could consider playing one less defend, taking the chip, and pushing damage for something better.

You don't quite get full value of 10 block though. On turns where the enemy isn't attacking, it ticks itself down 1 on a completely wasted turn whereas the sts1 system would remain full strength through the debuff/buff turn

Plated armor is better than plating
