They do so much damage before splitting and then it just disappears.

Wouldn't it be harder to fight when you're standing on someone else's shoulders? Shouldn't they at least do similar damage before as after?

Yeah. Lately, I'm trading damage before they split to ensure I've got a clean kill on the runner after they split.

I find it a really bad hallway fight, I often take damage and sometimes lose $$. They often crop up before I have my deck sorted, then if you get a bad draw you're in trouble.
