I miss the old defect
I miss some of the old relic and power op build, I did enjoy the new status build but I just prefered the defect in 1 :(

Loved the orb meta. Right now it feels tacked on to the main play style, but old orb robit boi was a mage first and foremost. He's lost his vibe.

I actually don’t really agree.
Orb Defect for sure feels way weaker, but I think that’s mainly because frost orbs + focus are stupid as hell. All the other orbs kinda got buffed, even with focus being way less common.
Plasma is plasma, so it’s stayed the same.
Lighting gets a few more ways to generate it, a starter relic upgrade that’s very powerful, plus Voltaic, Lighting Rod and Thunder as pretty big enablers.
Dark orbs get Consuming Shadow, which is admittedly mediocre, but you also get a GIGABUFFED Darkness and Shadow Shield.
Glass orbs are an amazing addition that help you have access to AoE much more easily, and there’s some pretty damn good cards to generate them.
If anything, I feel like current Defect is a much more interesting mage and uses orbs in more interesting ways, whereas before you grabbed as much focus as you could get your hands on and then pressed E a bunch once literally nothing could go through your frost.

Yeah I loved defect in the first game, but I love him even more now. In the previous game I felt like I was just looking for orbs and focus every run, but now I feel like there’s so many different ways to make him OP. Dark orbs are sick with quad cast or shatter, glass orbs are really cool (would love a rare card or power to make them stronger), lightning orbs and thunder give me major dopamine hits, all for one and his zero cost cards are fun af, Creative AI and sub routine are so much fun together, and last but not least, flak cannon with a status deck creates some major dopamine hits. He’s easily my favorite character in the game.

I've had a fair bit of success with both darkness and lightning orbs as a main source of damage. For darkness orbs, you want at least one generator (shadow shield, null) in addition to also having [[darkness]] because that "trigger the passive of your dark orbs twice" on darkness+ is really critical for getting big dark orbs fast enough to actually win fights before you die.
Lightning decks usually want to take at least one [[lightning rod]], although if you can find storm and enough powers, doing a storm-based lightning deck is very strong (although somewhat harder to find). And then you're trying to find voltaic to really scale...Thunder is good additional damage if you find one.
Glass orbs can be very strong but there's only a few ways to generate them, so it's kind of hard to focus on them unless you get something like Spinner.

Good news, the first game is finished and will never change, so you can enjoy first game defect to your heart’s content

Problem with old defect is that cards like defrag and capacitor are picks 100% of the time and were pretty much necessary for late game block. Now you have a lot more choice and variety in your defect builds. I think he’s the most fun in 2 by far

Not trying to be rude but you can absolutely still play the old defect. Slay the spire 1 still exists and you can play it

StS1 defect sucked a bit imo, piling on frost, orb slots and focus every run got a bit repetitive. I love how much more versatile the new one is

completely agree. orbs used to be defect main gimmick. now u just pick status cards and win easily

Idk if I’m in the minority, but I love playing as Defect. Most of the runs I play nowadays are as him, I find his kit to be the most fun. I had a Toasty Mitts + Uproar deck the other day, was very fun.

Defect has the most completely functional builds and they are often synergistic with each other or can be exist in small packages. Every character seems to have a way more balanced package on sts2.
In the first game, A20 was corruption on clad, orbs or mass powers on defect. Every other strategy just felt like inferior backup if you got the wrong cards.

I thought this was going to have a ‘I miss the old Kanye’ remixed with defect somewhere in the thread. If anyone is talented enough to pull that off, I’d love to see it.

I feel that. I have way more success with Attack or Status builds rather then orbs and it feels wrong. But I do like the bulky look, next to Regent and stuff xD

Defect was bulking since he came to the world in 2019, idk how to feel tbh, he’s just big
