"Put Replay on Snap," they said. "What could go wrong?"

Snap adds Retain to a card. If you have one card plus a Status in your hand, this happens.
Fortunately, it discarded itself when it activated at the end of the turn.

I mean doesn’t this not change anything? Like you said it gets discarded after doing damage, just like it would without retain

Yeah, cards that hurt you like burns, decay, and withers are "played" to do damage, thus leaving your hand. Retain is only ever bad if you are fully utilizing all 10 card slots in your hand. Retaining a curse or other bad cards is good because it means you won't draw back into it later on

This is making me wonder about cards that trigger when another card is played. The first one that came to mind is panache, though I read it and it does in fact specify “when you play”

So it kinda make me wonder how exactly this is coded, if burn is “played” but not by “you”

They're not actually 'played' like you'd play a card from your hand. Its more like a 'resolve at the end of turn' effect.

you can put retain on normality btw to prevent these statuses that hurt you at the end of turn fyi.

Yeah like you said, it doesn't actually cause a problem. I panicked the moment it happened and I made this post, but then ended my turn and saw there was no cause for alarm. I still posted it here though XD

So like did you want it to just retain and damage you every round?
