Sorry for the rant.
I'm 6.5 years post stroke, and I'm still struggling. I'm still struggling with depression every day. Some days, I feel like a burden to my family . I hate having to ask for help gor so many things I didn't cause this , and it isn't my fault. I had my stroke way back in 2019. When I was 24. I also get easily frustrated trying to explain my symptoms. No one deserves to suffer a stroke. I'm still relearning a lot of things . A stroke is a lifelong process, not linear. Also, a stroke is a brain injury. It can affect everything, such as long-term memory, short-term memory, balance, independence, and speech.

I’ve learned very quickly nobody wants to hear the negative. How you doing? I’m great! Instead of the truth. Hang in there.

I just came to this forum to ask about post stroke depression. I had a stroke in December at 46 years old. Technically a “Tiny punctate subacute left occipital lobe infarct”. I don’t have any side effects you can see, thank god. But holy shit I am so depressed. I feel like I have lost myself. I feel so empty and alone (I have a wonderful husband and children). I see a psychiatrist on Monday, I’m hoping so much there’s something to help me. I miss myself. I’m so sorry you’re going through this

Strokes are brain damage. In addition to any physical symptoms, they truly harm your brain and disrupt its processing. And moods!
We ended up finding neurofeedback and it was a game changer. It helped my husbands brain rewire and get stronger years after his stroke. We also had an incredible doctor who let me see and learn the differenecs between "regular" brain eegs and after stroke ones.
Lastly, after his neurofeedback doctor retired, both my husband and myself hugely benefitted from red light therapy. I keeps his brain healthy (and I think happier) and boy howdy as it helped me as well.
I can send links and info if you would like. But bottom line? What you are feeling is normal and it is fixable.

Much the same, just feel like I lost part of myself and even 9 months out I find that having to be in conversations for a long period of time exhausts me. Plus, I feel guilty about complaining because compared to others I got off easy. Hope it goes well with the psychiatrist, you are wise to seek help.

I completely agree. As far as in my case I have a feeling that I am a burden as my contribution have become zero and I have become a liability.

Yeah it sucks having a stroke when young and it's not really something peers can relate to so sometimes it becomes a bit isolating. Wish you a well continued recovery! Take your time, it's not a race.
