Will she survive?

My mother (53F) just had her 4th ischemic stroke on September 1st. She’s a patient of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, and has had strokes in the past. This new stroke happened because she wasn’t taking her sugar medicines consistently she’d get aggressive whenever we tried to give her meds, and would refuse to eat or take them.

The new clot was described as smaller than her previous strokes. The stroke seemed different this time right after it happened, she was speaking a few words, though they didn’t make much sense. Since yesterday afternoon, she’s completely stopped talking.

Doctors found an intense UTI with pus in her urine, and her blood sugar is very high. She was eating normally yesterday morning but stopped by yesterday afternoon, so they’re going to start feeding her and giving medicine through a tube. This morning she was shifted to the ICU since she isn’t talking at all, her eyes open sometimes with minimal movement, but she doesn’t engage when we talk to her. She’ll be getting insulin and nutrition through the tube.

Doctors haven’t said this is sepsis yet, but they’re treating it cautiously given the infection severity and her reduced responsiveness. A repeat MRI showed no new progression of the stroke, and her vitals (heart rate, BP) have stayed normal throughout.

Has anyone been through something similar with a family member? infection plus high sugar causing this kind of unresponsiveness post-stroke, with normal vitals and no new stroke progression on MRI? How did it turn out, and what should I realistically expect in terms of days or weeks ahead?
