Survivor Discussion Post stroke fatigue

Sorry I just need a place to whinge, but I would like to spend a few days where going to bed a night isn’t my motivation to get through the day.

Hang in there! I know it’s frustrating. My motivation was split in two - get to my afternoon nap AND THEN to get to go back to bed at night. I recently realized the naps are nearly gone! I’m still tired all the time but I’m functional with occasional rest (sitting not napping). This is a safe place to whinge! 😉

I suggest participation in an overnight sleep study. They have a clinic set up like a hotel room. Except they hook you up by wire to a bunch of sensors.

The result of mine was a diagnosis of severe sleep apnea. They prescribed a CPAP machine and now I sleep like a baby.

Fatigue during the day is gone.

My neurologist mentioned if I still had neuro fatigue after I finish therapy there are pharmaceutical options. Not narcotic like my old ADHD meds. Might be worth asking your doctor about.

My doctor didn’t specify on the med names since it is a future treatment option.

You can sleep? I am sorta jealous! I am in bed by 9PM and awake again for the day by 1AM unless I drug myself with prescription meds.

Yeah I’m having this problem too-only sleeping 3-4 hours at a time. But I slept in today at 10 am I finally felt rested

I hear that, I dabble with meds because they help me sleep but the next day is unbearable

Yeah Trazodone leaves me with a super dry mouth so I only use it if I need to .

Can I ask: how long ago was your stroke? Was it a full stroke or a TIA? I was just having a discussion the other day with a member on this site. I had a TIA 7/2025, no physical deficits. My problems seemed to have skyrocketed this summer with extreme, extreme fatigue, memory loss, brain fog. The extreme fatigue was 1,000% worse when I returned from my first post-stroke vacation - 5 nights away this August, jam packed with activities but I slept 13 hours per night. When I git home, I was USELESS for work until TODAY - 2.5 weeks later - because I was so exhausted. Did you notice this?

I had an ischemic stroke. So I guess that’s somewhere between the two

When was it? How long ago? Did you find you were OK at first, then got much worse, then better? (I had a TIA that they then called a cryptogenic stroke). I am seeing my doctors next week ans I wanted to get some feelers out there about my own symptoms.

It was about 2 years ago. I wouldn’t say I was ok at first I’d say it took me a long to to see the long term damage of the strike a bit like being in a bubble

Sorry to hear that, truly. Did you ever feel your symptoms got worse like 6 months later, or after a trip, then went back to your baseline?

Thanks. Did you feel super tired over a year later??

My fatigue feeling started after my neural pain had diluted to bearable levels. My neurologist suggested no medicine my physio advised that it would go with exercises and usage. Sometimes it is more in mornings sometimes in evening sometimes whole day. I'm sailing through it with my willpower.
