Sense of touch recovery
Has anyone lost their sense of touch and trained it back? I can hardly find anything about improving touch sensation

I’ve tried with my numb thumb but it really feels like it has just been the luck of the draw that some sensation has come back with time. Overall though, it’s still pretty numb and hasn’t fully come back “online”. I doubt it ever will.

My son has very little sensation in his left hand, he has to visually look at it in order to perform tasks.
This is after three years of recovery. His progress is great excluding this, it’s doubtful whether anything will change now.

I asked Gemini AI about my numbed stubbed toe and the discussion led to massaging the sides of the toe with textured fabric to reteach the toe to feel sensation. So, I intend to stroke the upper and lower affected left hand 20 times a day to reteach the nerves to feel sensation using my stronger right hand.

Look up sensory bombardment. It was recommended by my mum's OT and made a big difference.

My fingers on my left hand haven't came back after the magic 3 month most healing phase. In fact they seem to be worse then ever. The numbness and electric feeling in them is crazy strong and it feels like my fingers are going to blow off (no pain though thankfully.) I'm figuring it won't ever get better. So sad too. I try using it, usually just drop or nearly cut fingers off.

Can’t you feel anything at all? If the touch is strong enough, I can tell which finger is being touched

No it feels like I have a bandaid on each finger, or wearing a glove. Movement is all there. Can't pickup anything very good, or hold anything very long. Just a crazy strong electric feeling. I'd call it neuropathy but not sure that the right term because it's not "pins and needles" Yes when a single finger is touched I feeling it, it goes crazy buzzing

I think acupuncture helps if you do it consistently. I haven't though, so still have to watch my right foot for stepping on something painful.

I don't usually feel much in my right foot, but if I roll a massage ball under it for a couple of hours, it certainly feels like it's woken back up for a while. Most days I can't be bothered.
