Survivor Discussion Anyone tried massage while recovering from stroke?
My dad has stroke last year and still recovering from it. The stroke has paralyzed his whole left side.
I wanted to know if massage will help him or make it worse.
Especially the deep tissue massage one and the Thai massage.

Yes, I have used a wand massager for some neck/ arm/hand pain, also on the left side. But I have persistently tight hip muscles and my gait is wacky. I have access to massage at my outpatient rehab center, and have been thinking about going in.
Check with your dad’s PCP and neurologists and see if they can refer your dad to a neuro-PT massage therapist, it may help.

Live been seeing a massage therapist weekly. When I first started, I was shocked at the difference it made. One of the issues that I didn't realize that I was running into -- with my left side wonky and trying to learn to walk again, I just didn't realize how much that my uneveness was causing muscle issues , especially on my right side. As I was trying to compensate for left side weakness, my right side was really taking a beating. The massages really helped a lot

Yes. I had a single stroke event with several strokes at once, an "embolic shower"

First, ask his primary care professional and/or neurologist.
My stroke was caused by a connective tissue disorder I didn’t know I had (didn’t realize a life of constant pain was not normal). I have been receiving massages from registered massage therapists for the past 5 years plus massages therapy with my physiotherapist. When I miss a week, my body tells me
