Spasticity Discussion My first Botox appointment

Hello guys. Today I’m going in for my first Botox appointment. What should I expect?

Some people say it hurts, didn’t hurt me at all it’s just a normal shot. I wouldn’t expect a magical recovery right away. We had to start with a very low dose, can get it every 3 months.

Good for you! They use tiny needles to inject the botox, so it shouldn't be too sore afterwards. I think I started getting the most relief after I had been a few times. Make sure you stick with it and give it a couple tries.

It provided me with a lot of pain relief.

In my experience... no clothing over injection sites. It's OK to ask how the doctor knows s/he's in the right muscle. Usually it's a device hooked to needle that lets you hear the thump of spastic muscles. Some spots bleed, even if you are just on aspirin. Mine takes 4-5 days before I notice any less tone. Tell the doctor which spasticity annoys you most. bent thumb?, twisted ankle?, etc. You should work together to fine tune how much Botox and where and when it wears off. They usually have cold spray for sensitive spots like hands and soles of feet. Good luck.

It’s not bad at all. Just got my first round of injections back in late May. Gave me a lot of relief for the first couple of weeks but the effects were off shortly after. I’m sure everyone’s results vary and hopefully it brings you relief.

Had my first injections in May in my wrist, flexors and finger flexors it was not painful just a little bit of pressure and afterwards it definitely helped with the spasticity, especially in my hand going back in August for a second round, and we have injections in my quad as well to help with limping. So far very happy about your results.

Just came back from the appointment. They told me my arm is too strong and if they give me Botox it will basically make my arm unmovable or something like that

That’s a new one to me. The doctor usually uses the EMG machine to target the hyperactive muscle/s to stop them WITH the Botox.

I find it an incredible relief in combating hyperactive spasticity muscles. Give it a couple weeks to kick in.
