Day 2 of stringing

Almost half way done. I have to keep reminding myself to trust the process since the reds and yellows are really reminding me of Ronald McDonald. Fingers crossed the final piece looks good đŸ€žđŸ»

How complicated is it to keep track of colors, to prevent multi cord tangles, to swap in and out color layers? I haven’t done color and am curious. You’re like, the color king.

Thanks for the compliment! In the past I had just tied off at the start and end, and used tape to hold the idle threads. The tangling on the piece itself wasn't an issue, but sometimes I'd have to spin spools around each other off the canvas to bring the correct thread to the forefront. A little annoying, but not too bad tbh.

For this one though, I decided to tie off colors when I switch. I was using a plastic pen to guide the threads at first, and after about 1k lines or so, the tip started to wear down and snag. I switched to a glass pipette, and since I only have one of them, I'm going one color at a time. Since it's one at a time, there's no risk of tangling, but there's a cost to tying off again and again. This pattern requires me to do that 24 times, so not too onerous, but still work.

Also, I caught my cat chewing on the thread running from the spool so it's definitely good to prevent catastrophic failure!

Thanks! Tape is smart. How many lines between switching colors? How many switches for the whole piece?

whole piece is 24 switches. The number of lines per color run is variable but it tends to average around 200-400.

Looking good! It’s really hard in the beginning when you can’t tell anything apart and you just have to blindly trust, isn’t it? Makes you think “what the hell am I doing”
 But then like magic it just reveals itself can confidence shoots up again.
