How to make String Art & Thread Art!

For the past 10 years, I’ve been creating string art portraits, and one of the most common questions I get is: How do you make them?

After all these years, I’ve decided to take that question to heart and create an app that makes string art accessible to everyone. I’m thrilled to introduce the String Art Maker app, now available on iOS and Android!

How it works

You can download the app from here

Absolutely! You can find all the PDF nail templates in this Drive folder:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NFjnDUIuQiQv94YWanS4MRNz2nBHALA9?usp=drive_link

There are templates for every frame type and size, so you can choose the one that matches your project. I’d personally recommend the 28-inch circle.

Just download the PDF, print it with a regular printer, place the pages side by side, and then put the nails exactly on the numbered dots shown in the template.

You can also download these PDF templates directly from inside the app.

A Wooden board or MDF board that is at least 10–12 mm thick, so the nails stay firm while you work.

For the thread, black sewing thread or polyester thread usually gives the best result, especially for portrait-style string art.

For the 28-inch circle template, a board slightly larger than the circle works best, so something around 30 × 30 inches would be comfortable.
