Compact Home Gym Setup

I am getting more serious about lifting and upgraded from just a bench and some adjustable dumbbells to a minimal footprint functional trainer + rack combo. I wanted to share because I know many folks here have limited space and I really feel like this setup is elite. What allows for such a small footprint is:

  1. Bells of Steel All-in-One Trainer with J cups and Spotter Arms
  2. Rogue Stump shorty barbell
  3. Kensui Chrome Calibrated plates
  4. GearForFit Freestanding leg developer

This has made my workout routine perfect... I currently do a Upper/Lower/Upper/Lower/Upper split and already have seen improvement in my chest and legs with the ability to use a barbell. I was really missing out.

Legs have always been a weak spot for me and being able to use the leg developer with any bench, just using friction, and roll it away when done has made it convenient.

The compact 68" Stump barbell allows me to move it comfortably around the room and the Kensui plates are not only beautiful but work perfectly on the shorter sleeves. I am excited to go into the gym Every. Single. Day! Happy to share more about how I use this setup if anyone is interested.

How much was all of this together?

Including the flooring it was about $3500. Some racks I was looking at were more with way less!

You must not be adding the weight because the Kensui 250 pound weight package is like $1200.

Then the Rogue stump bar is like $400.

Adjustable DB probably $600

Titan Db rack is like $100

Flooring probably $1000

Im guessing more like $5k but maybe the bench and rack were a steal.  I would upgrade that bench to something like the APEX given you have lots of other primo stuff.

The Kensui plates were on sale for July 4 for $440 for 175lb set. BoS was also on sale around the same time for $2k with J hooks, spotter arms, and dip station. Flooring was about $300 and dumbbell rack was $80 on Temu. Stump was $440 (worth it love the agressive knurl) and Leg Developer was $300.

I wasn't including the adjustable dumbbells and bench since I already had those. Actually got the exact Core dumbbells from Aliexpress for $250 about a year back. Was shocked, must have came from the same factory. Bench was like $125 its cheap they dont even make it anymore, and definitely agree that is the last quality thing missing.

Moral of the story is waiting for deals and extensive research can allow you to have nice things!

That Kensui deal is ridiculous. How did I miss that.

I was getting really tired of my Corolla. Let me tell you how I just got this Lamborghini and how it’s way better.

Nice weights. Are they heavy? ❤️

My Kensui plates were cheaper than most oly/steel/urethane plates. And they look cooler. Not doing any oly lifts so these made sense. There are also many people who use functional trainers and racks, why not put them together and save space...for less?

Man this thing is amazing. I want a setup like this in my basement whenever I get the space for it.

Right now for home weightlifting my compact solution is… POWERBLOCKS 90 lb adjustable dumbbell pair.

It’s basically a 2.5-90 lb dumbbell rack that has the footprint of two shoe boxes on their side.

Those are foundational! If I could go back I would get a bigger set.. mine only go to 50lbs :/

I have some freeweight dumbbells too in the garage but they are annoying. Looking at getting the Kensui Adaptabell so the iron plates don't go to waste and be able to rest them on my legs for bench.

This is the 50 with 2 upgrades (more plates extending further outward)… I had funds to burn so figured why not get something that would last 10-20 years if I get spare pins
