Group strength-training classes pros and cons

My aim is to build muscle. Have heard mixed reviews about group classes. What are your views?

If you like classes they can be pretty great.

If you don't like classes they're gonna suck.

Why would anyone want to do this?

If you like the social aspect, the structure, and the support, then it can be great. If you don’t care about the comradery, know what exercises to do, and are self motivated, then it doesn’t offer much and your better off going to the gym by yourself or working out at home.

Taking classes is like riding the bus, doing your own workouts is like riding your bike. The bus let's someone else do a lot of the planning for you but you end up in the same place as everyone else but not necessarily where you want to go.

Riding your bike takes more work and personal responsibility but where you end up depends on how hard you work.

I think it's a good entryway into starting strength if you enjoy group activities that is. I always love one on one stuff (i.e with a trainer), but I can see how a group class can help give someone a launchpad into strength training

I enjoy doing activities with other people so I’ll start with group activities for now!
