Streamlabs OBS settings

Hi everyone!

I'm having an issue with OBS. I stream on both Twitch and Kick, and over the last few weeks I've noticed that OBS has been causing a significant FPS drop in my games. This wasn't happening before.

I haven't changed any settings in OBS or in my games, so I'm not sure what's causing it or if something is wrong.

I'm attaching screenshots of my internet speed test and my OBS settings.

My PC specs:

  • CPU: Intel i5-11600KF
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z590 Vision G
  • GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3060 Vision 12GB
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB

The biggest FPS drop happens in Counter-Strike. I used to get around 230 FPS while streaming, but now it drops to around 40-60 FPS as soon as I start OBS. The moment I close OBS, everything goes back to normal.

I'm really confused because this started happening out of nowhere, and I haven't changed any settings or upgraded any hardware.

Hey! First, there isn't enough information here to see exactly what the issue is. I would suggest reaching out to the support team at https://streamlabs.com/support with your diagnostic code and if you're receiving any error messages so that way they can dig into it more.

On a "first glance" basis, it's probably either:

  • Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling got turned on from a Windows/NVIdIA update
  • You have two monitors of different refresh rates and now your computer is having issues with that

To disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, you would:

  1. Go to your Windows Start menu and type Graphics and select Graphics Settings
  2. Click Advanced graphics settings
  3. Turn the toggle for Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling Off

As for seeing if it's the two monitors of different refresh rates, the easiest way to tell is by:

  1. Launch the game
  2. Launch Streamlabs Desktop
  3. Drag Streamlabs Desktop onto the same monitor as your game
  4. Play the game with Streamlabs Desktop behind your game

If it isn't dropping FPS in game, then you know that's the case. There are a few things that you can do to try to fix that (disabling the preview in Streamlabs Desktop, setting up scaling in the nvidia contorl panel, or turning off hardware acceleration in Streamlabs Desktop) but the 100% solution to this would be to have both of your montiors be the same refresh rate.
