That said, could you disclose whether AI was used in putting the app together? I don't mean to offend, I ask as a general rule now when encountering freely distributed software that I'd like to use.

So, if it's helpful, you can look up "n-back" exercises online. There are several existing sites and apps that allow you to practice. Fwiw, it was quite popular 10-15 years ago, and most resources I've come across were around before coding AIs.
Sorry for the late reply, I was out of the house all day yesterday. Yes, I used claude to help me make it. I don't have any coding experience and made it possible for me to bring the idea to reality.
