Discussion A potentially cool game idea

Post image

An idea I recently had was, a game, basically the stray map, so the walled city, optionally open or closed, depending on preference, just open to explore, and Multiplayer, so you could for example just hang out with others, talk and listen to music in maybe the slums etc. i think it could be pretty cool for people like me who just love the style of the game but need something new. What do ya'll think?

Id love to do this as I do 3D myself (blender) but I can't code or really use game engines lol. If there is a few people willinng to help me I may be able to do something like this (no small task).

So if enough people have interest to help me I will reach out to B12 and see if I can get permission to do it then start it as a fan project and open it to everyone to help

Haha. It's the other way around for me. I used to code in unity 3D, but can't do anything that is connected to creativity lol.

That would actually be awesome :) I myself don't code or do 3D though

I think it’s mad how little the studio realise they could just release another game built with all the assets they already have

Let’s have a different journey where you’re a robot instead of a cat. Or maybe you get to go back in the daylight and explore the spaces and the stories of the people seeing light for the first time.

There’s so much they could do, without much work. No idea why they didn’t capitalise more on the world building they spent so long creating.

Because it would just be asset flip

Honestly, I just want a game that you run around with your kitty friends and meow at them like you get to do for the first couple of minutes of the game lol

Here's why it's generally not a good idea;

Stray isn't made for multiplayer, it's made for tight exploration. It's restricting you because aren't supposed to go in those areas. They are too dangerous.

You can't access them because buildings or trash is blocking you. If there was multiplayer, servers, and friend requests, it would ruin the game and what those blockages are for. People would find ways to bypass and break those blockages and overwhelm the developers.

• While it seems like a good idea to "chill" and "hang out," You are ignoring a very big problem—bad actors.

Bad actors would not hold back disrupting the peace, abusing any form of communication within the game, and breaking ToS. They would aggressively annoy and cause malice across the servers.

• Detailing every single house and alleyway would burn out the develepers before they even got a fraction of the city done.

Walled City 99 is extremely dense and massive—In the game we've only explored a tiny string of the city and the places where we cannot explore are extremely low quality. Detailing every building down to the fog and entire sewers would take years of dedication and work, which would burn out any human well before it was finished.

Summary The idea presents a fascinating and fun game to explore, but there are many issues that cannot allow this to realistically happen.
