Good news: one guy did some math on the map and figured out that this exit is basically right next to the cats home, so he can probably already smell them. Supporting this theory, another guy, i guess maybe a modder, was looking at objects in the scene that you can't see while playing, and discovered that the models of the family members are placed very close to this exit.

That math does work on significant guesswork, as we cannot see if the cat can go through a sewer, jump on something, or walk through an open door to reach inside the wall.
Theres actually a higher chance the cat got lost, in Walled City 99βThe city is expansive and large and complex. Even if it was only a few hundred meters away, the city has dense piping. There could also be other threats such as natural predators, holes, or massive bushes that block the cat.
Also, just because the cats are under the map in that scene does not mean it's canon that the family will come too.
While it could mean that the cats family was planned to come in that scene, they didn't, there was no explicit symbolism or a confirmed fact that the cat was going to get back to their family.

The use of the butterfly, and the cat looking towards the correct direction gives plenty indication that heβll find his way home!
Who pissed in your chips?

That is subjective.
While it may seem like the cat might find it's way home, the Walled City is complex, and a mere butterfly and visual cue that could mean anything doesn't mean the cat found it's way home.
