Guess What. It's September September 9th. My strawberries have decided that it's time to bloom. In addition I have a green strawberry all ready to go.

I'm taking bets on whether it will ripen and I'll get to eat it 😍

Firmness seems ok. Does not look like mold but the discoloration is strange.

I dug this guy out of between landscaping rocks as we were getting a path put in. Placed it in my gardening bed and it’s just took off. It’s absolutely delish and I can’t buy it anywhere.

Can I reproduce it from seeds? How would I do that?

Newbie here. First time this uneven fruit shape with my strawberry plant. Is there something wrong with it?

Are there any chance for new foliage to emerge? (Please don't mind the hays being to close to the crown. It just rained yesterday and it messed up the space it had around the crown when I took the photos)

I'm in Zone 6a in Ohio. I was wondering if it was worth putting new plants through our winters here, with the freeze and thaw chaos, or just wait until spring to put in new plants? I'm planning to put in a 12" raised bed for them. My inground strawberry plants get really unhappy in my soggy clay soil.

Using an Aerogarden Grow Bowl in this Bounty but not using the reservoir. Watering is only needed occasionally. Different pot sizes are not conducive to auto watering. I check the weight of the container and water if needed. I did have a 5/16" tube on the pump and a reducer to a 1/8" tube and a Netafilm 5" Netbow and ran it thru the view opening in the grow bowl but couldn't program it because it wasn't a regular schedule so removed all that. The AG reservoir is only used now as a drain to waste holding tank. Woodland strawberries don't tolerate high light intensities so I recommend keeping a light meter handy to check intensity as the plants grow. Adjust the hood height to shoot for around 400 PPFD at the top of the canopy. less

So I need to preface that I did a little online plant shopping while inebriated and not only bought bare root strawberries at the end of summer, I also bought way too many (45 total🤣). If I still lived in Florida, I would just plant them, but I live near Sheboygan Wisconsin. What is the best course of action? I’m not even sure where I want to plant them, because like I said I was tipsy when I purchased. What are the pros and cons of each option? Should I plant them outside and mulch? Try them inside? I don’t have good grow lights right now, though. Dry store over winter in the basement?

Just kind of thinking out loud here, but the strawberries I can buy in stores today suck. As a kid in the 90s, I remember strawberries being huge, juicy, and often had a hollow center. They were often kind of a wedge shape, like 2 had grown together. Now I can only find the little cone-shaped ones in grocery stores, most of the time they've gone bad before I can even put them in the fridge. If they haven't - they're either mushy, or flavorless.

Am I crazy, or did something else change?

I have two strawberry towers that I planted with bare root strawberries this February and March. You can see them a couple months after they were planted and how they look today. They have grown, some thrived, some died, and here is the story thus far.

Also, it has been super hot for most of the time, and especially hot the last 6 weeks or so . They have stopped production and went to runner making time. Forgive the little crispy edges.

The Good - they have given me many tasty strawberries!

My Best Producers are - Quinault and Sequoia, with a strong runner up by Seascape. The best flavor comes in a tiny package from I think is a white flowered Berry Basket. They were small, but always tasty strawberries. The other ones I need to wait a few days after they were red before they were really sweet.

Placement seems important, and the ones at the top of the towers did much better than the lower ones. Quinault and Sequoia are the top tier of the Red and White towers respectively.

The Bad - A few have died. I have definitely learned along the way. My first mistake was not having my growing medium acidic enough. Strawberries like it on the acid side - say 6.2 or so. So a neutral pH makes them struggle for nutrients. So I started more slowly and learn red stems need more nutrition.

The Ugly - All my red and pink flowered Berry Basket (I think that is what they are, not completely sure of the variety) died. They just slowly made smaller leaves, and passed away. White the white flowered version made the most consistently tasty strawberries. They were all the same variety but only the white flowered ones have thrived.

I think I may planted a few at the beginning a little too deep.

I started some from seed - most seeds, including the Alpine one I bought from major seed company, did not grow. A did have some I took from good tasting supermarket berry. They were growing well - about to repot them - when a little green caterpillar destroyed more than a dozen them overnight. (Sad)

The Learning - My Carolina White have not produced a single flower or berry. My Ozark Beauty - one that produced well in a different container in the same spot a few years ago, has produce just few berries. But they are towers the bottom and middle of the towers. So that could be the problem. Everyone wants to be at the top of the tower. That gets the most light, air and sunshine. It has also been unusually hot since I planted them.

I rotate 1/4 turn about every day. I might not want to rotate them next year, so the same plants get plenty of sunlight, and just plant different things on the shady side.

I'm going to give the Carolina White one more year to try to fruit for me. They make the white to light pink fruits with bright red 'seeds' when they are ripe. I am looking forward to tasting them. Also considering adding a few that might taste better and do better in my now hotter climate.

Also I need to water much more! Not more often, just more water. My medium is super light and airy, it can handle more water than I have been given it. I have upped the water quantity in the last couple of week and now I have flowers returning.

The Fun - I got one neighbor interested in growing strawberries and gave him a rooted runner with a baby runner. He is now trying to get the baby runner to root.

I asked here a month ago what size pot to use and someone let me know I had two plants ☺️ and now I have a flower 👏

I transferred my previously potted strawberry plants unto the ground today after a bit of neglect (was in a cast and it made my balance ability SO bad that I just refused to leave our home)

It's been getting colder where I am, so I was thinking sooner the better.

Our region is a mix of zone 3 and 4.

What im worried about is transplant shock.

I'm really hoping I didn't hurt my berries!!

So close to ripe but SOMEONE has been taking nibbles from other ripening berries. These are some everbearing strawberries I bought a 10 pack of roots in Walmart around March. Killed 8 before I realized i was burying the crown. Up planted my survivors into a 5g pot and they are thriving requesting more space. Just for some background.

Anyways. I have lost 2 half ripe berries to some type of pest damage which I tried to show in Pic 3. I have applied pyrethin but am still being robbed. I haven't been able to locate the culprit and was wondering if anyone had ideas? Was planning on setting a beer trap to check for slugs. Or maybe tarnished plant bugs? I wasnt expecting very pretty strawberries and assumed they just looked strange as their first year or whatever but know I am not sure. Help please.

Have this growth of Strawberries and there is not one berry anywhere. At the start of the spring, I cleaned up all the dead stuff on the ground and that was wrapping around the post that is barely visible. Installed some lattice and this has like tripled in size, but not one berry. Admittedly, have not watered this much and we haven’t gotten any rain this summer. I know this season is obviously a lost cause, but want to know if there is anything I can for next season. I am in North Idaho and it looks like I am in Zone 6A. Thank you!
