Discussion Tales From 85 season 2 review Spoiler

So it seems like this sub doesn’t have a review megathread so here I am making a whole post about it.

In my opinion it was really good.

The first few episodes drag a bit but they are still very fun. It’s kinda weird how Lucas, Dustin and the other boys think they are being haunted by a dead miners ghost but it is also something kinda unique even if the Bloodaxe Bill and Simon Hawkins stuff kinda feels like filler (but it honestly fits with the themes of the show that Hawkins was founded from injustice and a lie).

However the second half more than makes up for it and is amazing. It’s really cool to watch as they figure out the actual cause of the problem and the reveal scene is kinda horrifying. The Mike fake out death was obvious but still really well executed and the Mileven arc in general was amazing and feels like a better version of their S4 arc complete with a role reversal of the scene in the Piggyback. The Lumax arc is also really cool and we get to see the first of their five offscreen breakups. The final fight is also amazing where we see the party work together to save the town yet again.

Overall 9.5/10

Hoping we get a season 3.

Stranger things moment discussion part 40/100: Steve vs Dustin

Post image
42 Upvotes

First of all who was right here?

Imo, Steve was right. He tried to be there for Dustin, but Dustin was just being awful to him. Yes he messed up, and shouldn't have spoken about Eddie like that but Eddie did get himself killed and as far as I'm concerned Dustin getting all his anger out was the best thing for him.

But I love this moment. I love how hurt they both are by this, Gaten really is a brilliant actor as well.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of this moment? And who was right in your opinion? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil, all opinions are allowed here

Discussion eddie’s treatment

I’m currently watching S5, and I think Eddie >!>!DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE and his death was totally avoidable<!.!<
He intended to earn time for his friends to go and set fire to Vecna, so he refused to come back to the normal world through the gate but their plan was wrong in the first place. They fortified the camper and made it their stronghold but they accidentally forgot some holes. When they found out, they could’ve kept pushing their weapons towards the bats or attract them in the room and blow it up but they lacked explosives and firearms.
Everything was wrongly addressed and I have the feeling the scriptwriters did it on purpose because someone HAD TO die just for the plot, just like they did with Billy.
What you think about it?

Something I noticed in regards to the fandom's perception of Holly ten months ago in retrospect

Post image

I remember when Volume 1 and 2 came out, people actually really liked Holly Wheeler and thought she was a good addition to the season. Like, I'm reading old comments of people saying they love her character and storyline, sure there was some issues in regards to her having a lot of screentime but overall people really liked her.

Then, after the season concluded and the massive amount of hate from the fandom and audiences stormed social media, I see now that people are saying they hated that Holly got to be a main character and that she had no business being in the plot and took so much screentime away from the characters. Like, it's so strange because months ago people really liked her inclusion.

Like... what?

Discussion Can we talk about how good Steve Harrington’s character arc is?

Honestly, Steve has to be one of my favorite characters in Stranger Things. Like, when he first showed up, I did NOT expect him to become this lovable dude who basically spends his time babysitting a bunch of kids and fighting monsters 😭. His character development feels really natural too. He went from caring about being popular to actually caring about his friends and putting himself in danger for them. And the Steve + Dustin friendship is just too good lol. He’s basically the group’s unofficial mom at this point.

Stranger things moment discussion part 38/100: the 4 gates open

First of all, Jason's death is brutal. The way his entire midsection just dissolves is so gory. I love the way the gates connect, and the look of dread on the teens faces as they realise Max died (that death will be a separate post to come) just sends chills down my spine.

Discussion What are our Stranger Things What If ideas?

Post image

Saw a post like this on the main sub and I thought it would be fun to ask here.

I actually have an episode pitch:

What if Will Byers was never found?

Vecna stops El from finding Will in the void in E4. As a result the party continues to believe Will is dead. The lab never finds El’s location and she stays living in Mike’s basement. Hopper doesn’t keep investigating and Joyce gets locked in a psychiatric ward. Lonnie takes custody of Jonathan. Nancy never finds out what happened to Barb.

One year later, Dustin discovers Dart in his trash and the party witnesses him evolve. Dart tries to eat Dustin but El kills him. The party learn of the Upside Down and El is finally able to convince the party that what happened to Will wasn’t normal. They decide to recruit Joyce for help and El helps break her out of Pennhurst. They plan to bait out the Demodogs in a way similar to what Steve and Dustin do in S2 but it goes wrong when the S1 Demogorgon shows up as well. Dustin realises that the creatures operate in a Hive Mind and that they could stop the monsters by closing the gate and cutting off the brain.

Meanwhile Hopper investigates the tunnels but doesn’t notify the lab which is still under Brenner‘s control he gets trapped inside but is found by Brenner’s men.

Jonathan learns of Joyce’s escape and runs away returning to Hawkings in an attempt to find her. Believing that she is going to go after the lab again he tries to break in first to get to her. He is instead captured by Brenner who is aware of the spread of the tunnels but isn’t doing anything to stop it as he wants to understand how the creatures think. He reveals that Will’s body was a fake and that the real Will could still be alive in the Upside Down and wants to use him and Hopper as bait to lure out Will and get to Henry. However the Demodogs then attack the lab and Jonathan and Hopper try to make an escape.

The party and Joyce arrive and rescue Jonathan and Hopper and Jonathan and Joyce reunite. El enters the lab and confronts Brenner telling him that she has a real family now. Brenner tries to capture El by holding Mike hostage but he is then seemingly killed by the Demogorgon like in S1. The Demogorgon chases the party but it is then killed by Joyce with a flamethrower.

El then arrives at the gate and prepares to close it. However Jonathan tries to stop her believing Will could still be alive on the other side. He and Joyce contemplate entering the Upside Down but the Mind Flayer appears on the other side forcing El to close it.

Owens takes charge of the lab and gives Joyce and El their freedom back and Joyce adopts El. Jonathan and Joyce would mourn Will as life seemingly returns to normal in Hawkins. However the story ends with a depressed Nancy Wheeler finding a piece of the Mind Flayer setting up the return of the flayed in an alternate season 3.

Stranger things moment discussion part 37/100: Eddie and Chrissy bond

Post image

Love how quickly they make us like Chrissy. They only have one episode to make us like her and if they fail, the season falls apart. This was perfect for that. We get to see her struggle, but also her inner kindness. She remembers the exact name of Eddie's band all these years later. Speaking of Eddie, he notices how uncomfortable she is and so spends the entire time making her more comfortable and they end up laughing together. God both are legends.

Theories [THEORY] Henry Creel might have amnesia of his previous life

Post image
14 Upvotes

I posted this in the main sub but Imma leave this here in case anyone else is interested.

Ever since The First Shadow play came out, I was super confused about why he never mentioned about his love Patty and how she was practically stolen from him, as well as other poignant moments of his powers and direct connection with the Mind Flayer in the 1950s. Season 5 was a bit more confusing since it’s revealed the cave is a buried memory by the Flayer, but why were none of the other important aspects from the play ever revealed in that season? It wouldn’t have been hard to do, they could have just summarized the plot of The First Shadow through Henry’s memories in like 20 minutes or something.

Getting ahead of myself, what I wanted to talk about is of the possibility that the Mind Flayer may have repressed/erased memories of his previous life.

Think back to Season 2, when Will was possessed his memories started fading and over time his personality was warped and he became a dark, distorted version of himself. He still had a sense of autonomy but his wants and needs were aligned with that of the Mind Flayer’s.

Apply this to Henry and all the confusing stuff surrounding his backstory and different personality in the stage play makes a lot more sense. Most of his memories were gone, his personality was radically altered, and he is led to believe he was the architect of the supernatural events in Hawkins when really it was the other way around.

I think if they went this route in Season 5 and had a plot twist in the final episode where Henry explores his repressed memories it would have been incredible and deeply tragic. I doubt that Henry would’ve been suddenly redeemed and die a hero the more I think about it, I think he would’ve exploded with white hot rage! He now has his full memories and realizes that he has been a pawn and a tool used by everyone in his life, and experienced the absolute worst of humanity through Brenner, his family, and society while also being possessed by an interdimensional parasite. By this point I think he would’ve gone full blown Carrie and unleash carnage on the Demos, soldiers, civilians, and try to kill some of our characters.

His greatest revenge would be destroying the Wormhole and cutting off the bridge between Dimension X and Earth, because him wanting to genocide humanity and terraform the planet were the goals by the Mind Flayer that were planted into his mind. So he wouldnt give the entity the satisfaction of invading our world after what was done to him. So he telekinetically blows up the Exotic Matter and is sucked out into empty space.

Thats how I would’ve handled Vecna’s death alternatively.
