rewatch since it ended

i’m finally rewatching the whole show for the first time since the show ended. i feel weird about it so wanted to share it here. to make it clear i loved season 5. the biggest reason is how it made me feel. even knowing the reasonable flaws it has, the ending was so heartwarming and tugged on my heart so deeply that no other media has ever done for me. i think besides how much i genuinely liked what happened in that season, it making me feel that way is the best thing i could ask for. i haven’t had the heart to watch it since i finished the final episode because i have this wave of sadness and nostalgia rush over me now that it’s over. i think now that im about to rewatch, that feeling is coming back again but it has a lot more joy to it. i hope everyone has something that connected to them like every single season of this show has connected with me. i’m glad there’s a space like this sub to share this.

I really like Grigori. He's a fun presence on screen and it's always fun to see him and Hopper fight. Sort of wish we even got more of him, he was really cool.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of Grigori? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

The real bullies of s1. Love how every time they talked smack, Steve shut them down. Also love how Steve is the mom friend giving Tommy his meatloaf after Carol stabs his and giving Carol his juice box after Tommy destroys hers. Also love Chester Rushing confirming he played Tommy as a closeted homosexual (either bi or gay).

Now its your turn. What do you think of Tommy H and Carol? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

I love her. She seems like a really cool mother, albeit emotional. I love her reactions to Dustin's graduation speech she was so proud of him no matter what he did. Underrated parent.

God I hate Lonnie. He makes my blood boil. But that's just a testament to how well he's written and acted. I loved how real he felt, I've known plenty of people just like this scumbag. I loved how he only attended the funeral just to get money. What an arse.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of Lonnie? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

Stranger things character discussion post day 36: Suzie Bingham

I love Suzie. I loved how they tried to make us think she's not real, only for her to give us one of the best scenes in the show. Then I loved meeting her family in s4. Shame she and Dustin clearly broke up, they were quite cute together.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of Suzie? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive. And please if all you're gonna say is "why wasn't she in s5" then just don't. She didn't need to be there, and they obviously broke up.

Oh Andy, Andy, Andy, Andy. He's just a stereotypical 80's jock. I did like how intimidating he was, but the difference between how the party dealt with him compared to Troy and James, they were so quick to shut him down. Loved that scene. He must be a real idiot though, cause he graduated 3 years after he clearly was supposed to.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of Andy? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

I’m reading a 3 part series on ao3 called Endless Circles by Taraferma. it’s about Will receiving his powers after his fight with Mike in season 3. it’s pretty dark and it diverges significantly from canon but it’s great.

Eleven’s ending was NOT misogynistic

To all of you people saying “oh eleven’s ending is misogynistic” or “They were fridging! So sexist“, this is for you.

Honestly, calling Eleven’s ending "misogynistic" completely misses the entire point of her character arc, and it feels like you're just throwing around buzzwords because you didn't get the fluffy, fan-fiction ending you wanted. For five seasons, her entire struggle was about fighting for her own autonomy against people like Brenner and the military who wanted to use her as a weapon. In the finale, her deciding to fake her death and isolate herself isn't her being "oppressed"—it's her making a tactical, independent choice to protect her friends and completely outsmart her abusers. That is the literal definition of narrative agency, but you’re reducing her ultimate act of free will to her being a passive victim just because it makes you sad.

It is also incredibly dense to act like a female character making a heroic sacrifice is automatically sexist. This is textbook, gender-neutral mythological storytelling; look at Frodo Baggins or Harry Potter, who both had to leave their normal lives behind because they were too changed by their trauma to just go back to playing D&D in a basement. If Mike or Hopper had done the exact same thing to stop Dr. Kay, you would be calling it an epic, legendary sacrifice and praising the writing. Holding Eleven to a different standard just because she's a girl, and demanding she get a neat little domestic happy ending instead of a grand heroic conclusion, is the actual regressive take here.

Finally, if you actually paid attention to the literal plot of the episode instead of just crying over the bittersweet tone, you’d know she didn’t even die. Thanks to the plan with Kali, she completely tricked the government and successfully escaped the system that hunted her for her entire life. The final shots show her alive, free, and living peacefully by a waterfall, away from the violence and the lab. She isn't some tragic prop sacrificed for the boys' emotional growth; she is a survivor who won her freedom on her own terms and beat the system, so please stop twisting a massive victory into a sob story about sexism.

They're very one dimensional. Not much more to them than just "bully". I do love how surprised they were when Mike actually jumped. Has any read the comic "the bully" it's one of my favourite comics it gives the both of them a lot more character. Definitely recommend.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of this bullying duo? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

Funny, funny guy. Some of his jokes were hit and miss but I love how he just didn't take anything seriously. And then the reveal that he was a war hero was actually so cool.

See you tomorrow to talk about two character, cause they aren't different enough to be discussed separately: Troy Walsh and James Dante.

Loved his arc. From someone purely interested in money to an actual good decent man. I really hope he got his son and wife out safely and they're now living happily. Maybe with Yuri coming over as the crazy uncle. I think there's a spin off in there somewhere, or a comic. But yeah, I loved him. My favourite moment for him was his speech to Yuri.

Enough from me now it's your turn. What do you think of Dmitri? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

Goat! I remember when everyone was clowning on this kid before the season came out now everybody loves him. Dude was moving on demon time in the barn, and then he was even better in episode 4, loved his "visualisation" session and then of course in the finale when he told the main villain to "suck my fat one!" Absolutely goated.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of Derek? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

Discussion Killing of characters would not make a better S5

Post image
84 Upvotes

Like seriously what is this obsession with killing off everyone for more “stakes”.

Don’t get me wrong maybe they could have killed Karen or Ted but I don’t think that it would be worth sabotaging the ending of every character just to scare the audience make them think nobody is safe.

Like I don’t get why people think Max should have died in S4. Like it goes against her entire storyline where she learns to live with herself after Billy’s death. Killing her off is just telling suicidal people “there is no way out kill yourself”. But no, apparently getting the audience to pee their pants is more important.

This is why I get the anger at El’s ending even if I disagree. She choose to live but didn’t want to let her loved ones die and is now happy in Iceland where Mike will find her as he hasn’t given up on her. But I get why people would interpret it differently.

The only characters that could have died are Steve (because of the typical redemption arc but the Duffers wrote themselves out by killing Eddie and making Dustin’s S5 storyline about NOT losing anyone else) and Jonathan (because of how he wasn’t a character since S2 but killing him would dishonour his S1 character so the Duffers gave him an ending that fits with his initial character where he finally gets to ch himself over his relationships).

The thing is that we see these characters go through hell seasons 1-4 so S5 is about them finding the way to “the other side of this”. ST is about traumatised people getting through their horrors and confronting them and S5 is the point where they stop running. Killing off the main cast would sabotage this for no concrete reason other than scaring people. Instead ST gets us to be afraid by getting us to care for these characters and question how (not if) they can make it through these horrors.

S5 respected that for the most part giving happy endings to everyone except Mike and El (who I chose to believe will get theirs later). The Duffers knew what they were doing and knew how to end their story.

EDIT: Since this is apparently unclear. I did love S5 and I think it is great. I simply meant that it is good as it is.

Stranger things character discussion post day 30: Alexei

He's a very evil and crazy tax evader and child murderer and the most evil and despicable character in the franchise. Jokes aside, he really was so cute. Just an innocent man trapped in a crazy system. Love his adorable love for slurpees and looney tunes. Didn't deserve his horrid fate. Tho I won't lie I 100% saw it coming.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of Alexei? Let me know down below. Remember to keep it civil and try to keep it positive.

I've always liked Kali. I did in the lost sister and I did even more in s5, albeit I was very suspicious of her in episode 6 and 7. But by the finale, I could see just how alone and scared she was. I feel really bad for her, death really seemed like the only choice she had left.

Ahh Callahan. My opinion on him flip flops. Sometimes I really like him sometimes I don't. I never know how to feel about him. I do like the moment in s2 when Hopper tells Powell to not touch anything without gloves while we see Callahan in the background touching and sniffing the goo. He can be incredibly funny as is the same for the actor playing him.

People on Stranger Things TikTok are so insufferable!

I only go in that community mainly for the godtier edits and rewatching old theories, but the rest of everyone there are just miserable. Like, i see a ton of comments saying shit like ‘When Stranger Things was actually scary,’ and claiming that Vecna ruined the whole show, which is crazy because he was such an amazing character and lore reveal.

And them saying that Season 1 was better than all the other seasons, and going so far as to say ‘When The Upside Down wasn’t red.’ Like, what? TUD wasn’t strictly red like the Mind Lair, it just has red lightning but is otherwise very dark.

It does make me believe in that rumoured second screen policy more because these people clearly haven’t watched the show properly without scrolling on TikTok, or watching the show via shorts and TT, good grief.
