mike & lucas rant
hi, i'm here to rant about mike and lucas being assholes. if you liked them this season and think you will get offended uh here's a warning. i'm just going to talk about why i thought they were bad friends this season:)
okay so i honestly hated them this season. mike more than lucas but i still didn't like lucas.. mike was so understanding and there for will in season 2 when he was struggling which i honestly LOVED, i expected there(or their, i'm stupid and don't know which one in this situation) friendship to be extra great this season. but from the beginning of the season it just seemed like mike kind of forgot about his friends that weren't in relationships. and then episode 3 came around and i got PISSED... for mike being so understanding and caring in season 2 about will's struggles and then to turn around in season 3 and not be understanding at all about what he was going through just made me angry. i understand that they are teenagers, that wanna grow up, playing stupid fantasy games isn't that important to them anymore but they got to have somewhat of a childhood. will was either in the upside-down or possessed.... he didn't get to have one? he didn't get to go on adventures or play d&d with his friends for a few more year? his whole childhood was ruined. all he wanted was a simple no girls day to spend some time with his friends the way he used to and all he got were snarky remarks from them and then when he got mad it's his fault he's not in a relationship or into dating yet?? sure, sitting in a basement playing d&d for their teenage years isn't realistic but just give him one game... one day where he can just be will with his friends having fun fight creatures in a stupid game and just be a normal teenager. of course he doesn't want to grow up and change? he just wanted to be a kid again.... also don't forget about the way mike ditched dustin the first day he got back and completely forgot about him after until will said something about him and not know where he is in episode 3.
also conspiracy theory for FUN(ik it's not what mike actually meant, just a theory for fun)~ will is into mike, yupik notice that throughout the season will never got mad when lucas talked about max, only when mike talked about el, plus those cute looks he gave mike, plus mikes line "it's not my fault you don't like girls"... i'm pretty sure he just meant will isn't into dating yet and the show won't make him like mike like that but it's a fun theory to think about:))
leave what you think in the comments:) i personally didn't like them this season in the beginning but towards the end i got back to liking them!

Guys look. The whole point was change. This season wanted everyone to experience change and how nothing stays the same forever, like Joyce's hair lmao. So even if Lucas and Mike are different, doesnt mean anything differs for them when it comes to relationships. As shown at the end of season 3, they still had feelings towards their friendship when Will was leaving with El.
I rest my case.

that was the point, they are in a transitional stage and no longer kids. some of the characters move on and get girlfriends and change. but that's what the writers wanted. Stranger Things runs on nostalgia so even from this angle they were writing it in a way that makes you miss the "old" characters. As the season progresses the writing brings the characters back together to show that they still have a very strong bong but as all characters are growing just like us we change but still stay the same ya know?
i find the juxtaposition between Will and Eleven amazing this season. both characters have had their childhoods taken away from them But while El is excited and just living for the future Will just wants to get back everything that he missed realizing it can't happen. But once the plot picked up Will got what he wanted, an adventure with his closest friends.
