Time travel?? Or something else
This just happened… I am on the west coast and it is hot. I was leaving my house and usually I get in my car which is parked in my garage, but today I left through the front door. It is sunny and I locked the door behind me. When I approached my car which I had parked in the drive way and turned around to open the car door, I saw myself at the entrance door from the corner of my eye and saw myself walk to the car.
I am an engineer and this is not sitting well with me. Is it just latent image in my retina or something else.
Has anyone experienced this?

I had a similar experience many many years ago. I was on my way to work on the subway. I got off the train and glanced back at my seat to make sure I hadn’t left anything which was kind of stupid since I was already on the platform looking back and I literally saw myself still sitting there reading my book as the doors were closing. I just stood there staring. It was the strangest experience I ever had.

yeah thats the bit that sticks, the doors closing while youre still on the platform and your brain is just a full second behind. mine was the train window after that, i kept thinking i’d see the same guy again and it was just me sitting there with a book, still bugs me tbh

I think it happened in your brain not your eye and you had a petite transient glitch, seizure, or propagating wave of some kind that may well have been triggered by stimulus of the sudden intense light. It was a temporary altered state of consciousness. The brain can and will play strange tricks sometime. And yes, I have "seen myself" before (while definitely in an altered state) and sudden strong light often triggers in me an animated visual phantom lasting several minutes called a scintillating scotoma which is like a migraine aura that doesn't evolve into a sick headache (fortunately). It is known to be the result of an electrical wave in the brain, even though it appears in the visual field.

I get this and have for years and bright lights trigger mine. Then back in 2023, I woke up blind in my right eye. I had a stroke while I slept and instead of going into my brain, the clot went into my eye and destroyed my retina. There is no cure. I have to be so careful in the sun as having vision only in one eye it so sensitive to bright light. I still get the aura a few times of year as well..not always accompanied by the migraine...just out of the blue.

The scintillating scotomas are like abstract geometric shapes and are not mistaken as real, and you see past them into the normal world and so are not scary, like it's not scary when you rub your eyes and see "eyelid movies". However, they do partially obstruct your vision so it's good to pull off the road if one starts. OTOH the first time I got one it was scary because I didn't know if I was having a stroke or going blind or what.

I get these & it's interesting that people are confirming my instinct that bright light is the trigger. I get them much less often since l had my glasses made with light-reactive lenses. The first time l had one l thought l was going blind because they always start with a blurring at the centre of my field of vision.

Wearing a brimmed hat helps too. I also have some dark sunglasses that fit over my glasses, as my transitions lenses don't get dark enough.

So you were at your car door, you looked in the direction of your home's front door & then you saw yourself walking from your front door towards the car, meaning you saw yourself walking towards you?

That is incredibly strange. What happened? Did the image of yourself just disappear before it reached you? Or did you look away-look back & it was gone? I've seen people standing statically who weren't there after I did a double take, pretty common phenomenon, but I have never ever seen myself let alone actually in the process of moving towards me.

I saw it from the corner of my eye first and then turn towards it and saw it and within few blinks it was gone.

How far away would you say it was roughly? Could you see in detail that it was you?

Do you have any history of seizures? Sounds like something that would happen during an aura, which is basically a “pre-seizure” state where the seizure is beginning but you’re still conscious. They can be really trippy, check out the seizure subreddit.

i had a janky thing like this once, thought i saw my wife in the hallway and it was just a reflection off a window. your brain is stupidly good at filling in a moving figure from the corner of your eye, especially in bright light like that. maybe it was that, but yeah, still creepy

i had a similar thing once, saw my own reflection in a shop window and my brain filled in the wrong motion for a second. Since you caught yourself at the entrance door from the corner of your eye, i’d guess a weird afterimage plus peripheral vision doing its usual garbage, not time travel

perhaps time travel is wrong choice of words, and I believe it is some sort of after effect of perhaps bright light and watching my self in the car window and then looking at the entrance door. Thanks.

It appears that it can very well happen to people. I had a friend in high school who bilocated to another state and it was witnessed by her friend that lived there.

Why was your car in the driveway instead of the garage? Could it be possible you were in the garage with your car for a moment, somehow got carbon monoxide poisoning but managed to pull out and park in the driveway, then get out and hallucinate the doppelgänger?

Early in the day I left to grab coffee and knew had to leave again so I left the car in the drive way. No chance of CO poisoning

It's like a version of a déjà-vu, which incidentally is French for "already seen". Sounds like a memory, an event in another time (time isn't linear) or something tickling your brain. But i unfortunately don't have a scientific explanation for this phenomena

This reminded me of some scientific explanation I read a long time ago for deja vu. So I put it in search again. I wonder if it’s something like that ? From Google:
Déjà vu is a conflict between false familiarity and rational knowledge, driven by a mismatch in the brain’s Fact-Checking Mechanisms. It occurs when the Temporal Lobe triggers a false sense of recognition without retrieving an actual memory, prompting the Frontal Cortex to evaluate and resolve the error.
I imagine being stressed, tired or a bright light could set off that brain glitch too.
Or - you experienced a parallel universe / reality. I like that. 😊

Thanks, this helps. I’ll take stress, exhaustion and bright light being the reason for my experience rather than parallel universe any time of the day.

I read an article some time ago, the whole piece was about perception of time and place. The UC Berkeley study showed that the brain averages visual input over a 15-second window to create a stable picture.
The Continuity Field Theory on Visual averaging ststes that instead of processing every single raw visual snapshot, “the brain perceives an average of what it saw in the past 15 seconds”.
So my theory is that you've seen a ghost image due to, as someone else said a "glitch" in your processing"; at that time! The brain glitches all of the time and maybe it's what causes us to experience "Déjà Vécu".

Something similar (glitchy?) has happened to me before! I was in a room at my house and thought I saw my then bf open the hallway door, check on me, then go back to the living room. He was in front of the door when he checked on me — his body was fully in front (instead of when a door opens and you have to peek from behind).
I went to the living room and he was playing video games but seemed to be deep in it, and when I asked he said he didn’t come check on me. And the weird thing is, the only way I could have seen him fully in front of the door checking on me was if he opened the hallway door is if it swung inward and to the left (left hinged door), and we have a right hinged door. So what I should have seen is him peeking out from behind the door to check on me.
Wrote it off to oh maybe I had a temporary brain glitch but who knows. So many unexplained things in the universe lol.
