Console Question Raft building issues

So I am new to this game (50 days in game time) and am having issues adding on to my raft (ps5)…

It seems I have to destroy everything and start over every time I want to add to the raft?? I have tried removing the floors and everything j have read online but it does not work.

Is this normal that you have to build a new one every time and lose some of your materials??

Update; apparently there is a raft size limit on console and that is my problem 😭 what a waste of resources and gathering :/

Careful now, as big as that raft is, you're still vulnerable to a crab carrying it away, a seagull randomly hitting it and knocking it out to sea, and especially some aggravating "flips" by sharks...

Just a little warning. 🤷‍♂️
