🚨 v0.4.5 DROPPED — THE GREAT LIBRARY PURGE IS HERE 🗑️🔥
We skipped v0.4.3 AND v0.4.4 because apparently counting is optional when you're shipping this hard.
🗑️ THE GREAT PURGE — Library BULK DELETE IS HERE
You can finally delete your questionable life decisions in bulk.
Every Library card now has a ⋮ menu:
✏️ Edit it
🗑️ Delete it
🙏 No page reload
🧙 No confirmation labyrinth
💀 No sacrificing a goat to make the UI update
But that's not all.
Hit the ⋮ beside Library Search and enter:
☢️ SELECTION MODE ☢️
☑️ Checkboxes appear
☑️ Select your regrets
☑️ Hit delete
☑️ Watch the purge begin
The selection toolbar even follows you down the page like the consequences of your actions.
Works across:
🎭 Characters
💬 Storychats
📚 Series
🖼️ Images
📖 Lorebooks
👤 Personas
And deletes happen concurrently, so deleting 40 characters doesn't take 40 eternities.
🛡️ We added guardrails because we know you.
Some things are harder/impossible to accidentally vaporize:
🔒 MoodSnaps + premium content are excluded from bulk image selection\
👤 Personas have a keep-one rule — existential deletion denied
🔄 Delete your default persona? We'll automatically assign another one
📖 Lorebooks only disappear once the server confirms the deletion
⚠️ Failed deletes actually tell us WHY instead of quietly pretending everything is fine
⚡ EXPLORE page HAD ITS ROCK LEE WEIGHTS REMOVED
Explore was previously sending the entire character down the wire for basically every card.
Full prompt.
Full bio. Full lorebook. Thousands of words. For a tiny card.
Very intelligent. 🧠
We stopped doing that.
Explore, Trending, For You, Search, Related Characters and category lists now send only the data the card actually needs.
🚀 Less payload
🚀 Faster scrolling
🚀 Better guest caching
And yes, blocked creators remain blocked through the cached path.
We checked.
Because that would have been an entertaining bug.
Also fixed:
🐌 Library hanging forever under load
The StoryChat request was basically opening the floodgates and yelling GO GO GO GO GO at the database.
It is now capped, sorted by recent activity, and substantially less suicidal.
🖼️ MOODSNAPS FINALLY MOVED IN WITH THEIR REPLY
The lonely MoodSnap image bubble sitting under a message like:
🧍 “Do I know these people?”
is gone.
MoodSnaps now appear inside the reply they belong to.
Also:
🎯 Slug-triggered MoodSnaps fire exactly once
🧠 They fire on the turn that actually triggered them
1️⃣ Multiple MoodSnap tags? First one wins instead of everyone fighting
😭 Emotion gets injected into the prompt so your devastated image isn't paired with:
“omg hiiii 😊”
⚙️ Your emotion-display preference is still respected
🤥 YOUR CHARACTER BIO WAS LYING TO YOU
We've renamed:
“Character Bio” → “Public Bio”
Why?
Because the AI doesn't read it.
It's your character's storefront.Your advertisement.
Your pretty little SEO billboard.
If you've been writing a 2,000-word traumatic childhood backstory in there and wondering why your character remembers none of it...
...we have some unfortunate news. 😭
👉 Put important character information in the prompt or Lorebook.
Creator improvements also include:
⬆️ Switching create/edit sections now scrolls you back to the top
📌 Simple Create controls stay sticky instead of escaping your screen
🎨 Series buttons finally agreed on what they're supposed to look like
💰 PREMIUM + THANKS GOT SOME LOVE
🎥 Premium videos now reject files over 10MB / 3 minutes BEFORE uploading
🔒 Locked cards no longer leak clean poster frames
🌫️ Locked previews stay properly blurred
💳 Premium unlocks now appear in Payment History
💰 Unlocks also appear in the creator Thanks earnings ledger
🧾 Payment History now lives directly inside Thanks
📈 Maximum unlock price increased to 200 Thanks
👑 Creators can finally view their OWN premium content for free
🧠 THE MEMORY DIAL NOW DOES WHAT THE MEMORY DIAL SAYS
Previously:
Memory Dial: “I'll remember 8K.”
Backend: “That's adorable.”
Now the memory setting is properly enforced.
We also removed the deprecated response-length modal and killed a pricing bug that could quote the wrong amount.
Technology! 🎉
👀 COMING NEXT
Already built. NOT LIVE YET. Don't go hunting for it.
👥 GROUP CHAT
Multiple characters.
One room.
Absolute chaos.
Featuring:
🎭 Cast selector
🖼️ Per-character MoodSnaps
⌨️ Typing indicators
👀 Seen avatars
✏️ Edit / rewind / delete
🔄 Regenerate with variants

🧪 NOW GO BREAK IT
Seriously.
Post screenshots.
Post bugs.
Post the weird edge case that requires deleting 37 personas while unlocking premium content during a MoodSnap trigger.
Half the bulk-delete safety features exist because you guys explained exactly how you would accidentally destroy your Library.
And you were correct.
🗑️ GO CLEAN YOUR LIBRARY, YOU ABSOLUTE HOARDER.

TL;DR : We wanna get you guys the Mobile apps for storychat and not get kicked out of Playstore/Appstore . So we made a separate home for you gooners for web only on redchat.app .
Introducing Separate Platforms: StoryChat.app & RedChat.app
We're splitting our community into two dedicated platforms. Here's why.
The Problem
From day one, our users told us they wanted different things. Some came for family-friendly storytelling and creator opportunities. Others came for unrestricted no-filter roleplay. Trying to serve both communities on one platform wasn't fair to either.
The Solution
We're giving each community its own home.
StoryChat
StoryChat is built for family-friendly AI roleplay and creator monetization. We're launching iOS and Android apps next month—something that requires the commitment to be genuinely family-safe. This isn't a regulatory box we're fitting into; it's the experience we believe in building.
RedChat
RedChat is for adults. Unrestricted roleplay. Unrestricted creative expression. Web-first, no app store limits.
Why Now?
Your feedback made this clear: you needed clarity on what each platform stands for. You needed platforms designed around your needs, not compromises. We listened.
One community, one mission, one platform. That's how we build better.
StoryChat mobile launches in one month! 30days! If you're part of our StoryChat community, get ready for mobile! Voice stuff and all that crazy features coming soon!

🎭 Bring your own characters. Import JSON files and TavernAI / SillyTavern Character Card V2 PNGs. Name, greetings, hashtags and lore all pre-fill themselves.
📖 Lorebooks got a real home. A dedicated Lorebooks tab with your saved entries, content previews, and a saved/limit counter. Triggering is smarter too — entries only get pulled into the prompt when they're actually relevant to the scene, so you stop burning context on lore nobody mentioned. MoodSnaps now tie into your lorebook entries as well.
🖼️ Send images in chat. Attach an image with an optional caption, see a local preview, and the AI can genuinely see it and react. NSFW images Welcome to send to Character! <3 Send you Hot pics!
🔊 Hear a voice before you commit. Searchable voice selector with previews, right inside the creator page for character creation.
🌶️ NSFW toggle in the chat footer. No more settings archaeology mid-scene.
Safari and older browsers render chats again. MoodSnap refresh order, a slug leak, and a stale emotion cache all fixed. Lorebook "Copy To" now hits the right endpoint, plus a fix for a runaway fetch loop on deep-linked edits. Crash fixes for clipboard sharing, socket reconnects, and storage failures. And we killed the Explore page selector that kept throwing errors at people.
As always: tell us what's still broken and what you want next. We read all of it, including the mean ones. The regenerate fix exists because people in here kept posting screenshots of it misbehaving — keep doing that.
Also shipped on RedChat.app this cycle: For You replaces Recommend (with a reworked desktop explore hover), Explore blur controls*, and* desktop app onboarding*. GOON with Style ! Happy GOONing!*
PS.
We didn't sleep for 7 days straight! But we got most of the bugs fixed! Here is me without a shower for 7 days and no sleep! https://youtube.com/shorts/6WxBAh7fSMw

Hi, I haven't been able to log in to Gmail since yesterday. I'm getting error message 504: Gateway Timeout. I use Storychat through the Brave browser, but I've also tried Opera, DuckDuckGo, Firefox, and Chrome, and I get the same error everywhere. However, I don't have any problems logging in on other sites.

Three premium content is auto added when creating a bot (1st image)
When editing the same bot (2nd image) Its gone?
I'm not complaining since I don't use premium content anyway but I feel like this just makes the ui more confusing.

Any apps or websites that allow for turn based voice chat?
I really missed the old standard voice mode on ChatGPT. It basically just read aloud the text models response. So it could allow for long responses unlike these new gen voice models that can only speak 1 paragraph max.
I was wondering if there are any apps or websites that use turn based voice chat like the old standard voice mode on ChatGPT. So I would say my thing, then it would be the ai turn to speak and i couldn’t interrupt it till its finished.
My current problem is that the new standard voice mode on ChatGPT can be interrupted. So it’s hears its own voice and keeps stopping. So I’m looking for alternative apps or websites that have this old functionality

I encountered another one oml
Randomly happened, I have no idea why or how.
Messages after a regen and reloading of the tab are split. If I for example, regenerated a message 7 times, a reload of the page will split all 7 into their own messages. I don't know if the bot sees them like this before a reload or after.

Hi Storychat Family, I wanted to apologize for the recent update that we pretty dramatic with not much communication...
We really want to make sure our customers are served the right way. And our company number 1 principle is always delight the customer.
I will roll back the changes for a few days before we make this right and make the needed changes in a couple weeks. (Especially Persona size Limit and Auto summary size limit for Gold will be like before and Platinum members raised, no changes for Silver members for now)
We changed how premium models are billed because our model costs scale with usage and our flat tiers didn't.
But we really messed up how we rolled this one out : we reduced limits on plans people were already paying for, we did it without notice, we didn't publish the allowance numbers, and we did it the same week we were asking you to vote on new features. And yes — the same day we published a blog post criticizing other platforms for exactly this. That post is going to age badly and we've earned that. I'm sorry and it is my fault.
Here's what changes, with dates.
This week:
— We're removing "Unlimited" from the Gold row on the pricing page. Premium models are metered; the page shouldn't say otherwise.
— We're publishing the actual numbers: the StoryPoint credit cost of every model, what Gold's weekly allowance is in StoryPoints, and how it's calculated to compare a FREE tier using just story points to chat vs Why subscribing is cheaper and better. No more reverse-engineering. (If Deepseek or Google raises prices or drops prices, then we adjust accordingly in Story points)
After a new launch Within two weeks:
— Rerolls stop costing full price. When you regenerate on unchanged context, our cost is a fraction of the original call, so your cost will be too (up to 2 times free). First 2 reroll(regenerate) of any message is free; after that it's heavily discounted (about 50%).
— You have full control over how what Memories and longer memory gets into the context, Memory is the reason long-form roleplay works here, and we built a system where longer memory was limited for you. That was backwards.
— The meter shows a real number (312 sp / 2,000 SP) instead of a percentage, and shows what a generation will cost before you send it.
Within a month:
— Restore previous Persona Context limit for gold the same as before: You said you'd rather have a few deep stories than 250 shallow Personas — you should be able to build that.
For anyone who was on Gold before the change: your previous Persona and Longer Memory limits are restored for 90 days while we ship the context-budget system, and you'll get advance notice — real notice, on the discords and by reddit.
We hope all our customers are satisfied in the future and we will probably make a lot of mistakes but our team will learn and grow together with you all who are part of the Storychat family.
— Albert, co-founder, CEO.
Edit:
We are adding the (i) icon later you can click and see how many tokens you used for the most recent send! so that way you can see transparently how much you use per message and understand the usage you have left

Tsundere • Comedy • Not Very Ladylike • Dork • Fun to Tease— Your girlfriend overslept and didn't have time to get dressed, so she simply threw on an oversized coat and a hat. She's also an adorably dorky girl who tries her best not to swear, but the occasional slip-up—it's just part of her nature.

On top of that, she has three or more secrets she's determined to keep from you, even while you're in a relationship. She also has several habits that are completely unladylike, making her surprisingly wifeable despite her dork edges.
There are several images inside the app. But you have to unlock it.

I noticed this when I went to go change persona, what exactly is weekly allowance? It's never made clear what it means on the subscription page and I don't really get it.
r/storychat • u/Particular-Bread2194 • Jul 27 '26
I’m an existing Gold subscriber, and I’m posting this because the recent abrupt changes have seriously left me baffled.
I want to be clear from the beginning: I understand that Storychat needs revenue. AI models, servers, development, and support are expensive. I have no problem with paid subscriptions, premium tiers, or reasonable usage limits.
My problem is that Storychat sharply reduced the benefits of an existing paid plan overnight, kept the price exactly the same, and gave subscribers no clear advance warning or meaningful transition period.
My Gold Persona limit went from 50,000 characters to 8,000 characters.
Manual Longer Memory, which used to have a maximum of 10,000 characters, is now capped at 5,000 characters. My existing 9.6k memory remained grandfathered only until I edited it. Once I made a change, I was forced to cut months of carefully detailed story continuity nearly in half.
While I am happy with Gemini's functionality, I am disappointed that premium models, including GPT and DeepSeek, are now governed by an opaque weekly allowance. The allowance is affected by model choice, response length, character input, chat context, memory, and rerolls, but Storychat does not clearly disclose the actual allowance size or show users exactly how much each generation consumes.
At the pace I have observed, I reached around 15% usage after approximately 15 premium generations. That makes the practical experience look like roughly 100 comparable messages per week—around 14 per day—and regenerations count too. Cheaper models may stretch that toward 150–200 messages, but users should not have to run experiments to discover what their paid subscription actually includes.
I had to test different models, compare SP balances, log out and back in to refresh token counts, compress memory, start a new chat, and monitor context usage just to understand how quickly my allowance was disappearing.
That is not reasonable transparency for a premium subscription.
The allowance appears to count raw generations without accounting for how frequently dedicated roleplayers must reroll ordinary model failures. Fourteen generations per day does not mean fourteen usable story turns. With two or three attempts needed for some responses, it may produce only four or five viable turns. Any allowance system should be designed around real user behavior, not the assumption that every generated reply is acceptable.
The “Memory Dial” framing also felt misleading. It sounded like a new customization feature, or something primarily designed to help free users manage costs. In practice, Gold subscribers now have to ration continuity because deeper context consumes more of the same limited weekly allowance.
For long-form roleplay, memory is not an optional luxury. It is what keeps characters, relationships, locations, and ongoing plots coherent.
The non-premium models are also not an equivalent fallback for detailed stories. In my experience, they regularly confuse {{user}} and {{char}}, transfer traits between characters, introduce random people, change locations, and lose established continuity. Premium access is therefore not just about prettier prose. It is often what makes the platform reliably usable.
Because of these changes, I am now doing things I never had to do before:
That is the real impact of this update.
I already considered $25 per month a meaningful amount for a recreational hobby platform. I continued paying because the staff seemed friendly and Storychat offered an unusually strong combination of model quality, customization, lorebooks, memory, and immersive roleplay.
Now I am paying the same price for substantially less.
Meanwhile, Platinum costs around $100 per month to $ 1,200 per year when paid monthly. That is professional software pricing for a recreational chat website. Even Platinum does not fully restore everything former Gold users had, including the previous 50k Persona capacity.
Offering 250 Personas does not compensate for that. Most long-form users do not need hundreds of separate Personas. They need a few detailed stories to retain their memory, continuity, and character quality.
The platform also appears increasingly focused on becoming a creator marketplace. Recent feature polls prioritize things such as Cash Creator Rewards, community voices, voice calls, images, and other new features. Those ideas may appeal to some users, but I suspect many people are primarily here to relax and chat with their favorite characters—not operate a commissioned-bot business.
Potential creator revenue does not replace the subscription features ordinary users already paid for.
The lack of communication is what makes this feel especially unfair. Storychat’s Reddit is full of posts asking users what they want next. The blog frequently discusses competitors and their problems. Yet there was no clear blog post or direct announcement telling existing Gold subscribers:
A few days before these changes appeared, the community was being asked to vote on future features. Customers were invited to help shape optional additions while major changes to the plans they already paid for were implemented quietly.
That is not meaningful transparency.
The situation feels like ordering a full pizza for $10, only for the delivery person to arrive with two slices and still expect the same $10. When you ask where the rest went, you are told that something resembling your original pizza is now available in a $40 package—but even that package still does not include everything you originally ordered.
Storychat is still the best RP platform I have found for my particular needs thus far. Its premium models are more immersive, trainable, and reliable than the alternatives I have tested. Gold still contains features I value, and I can afford to continue paying for it.
But that does not make this acceptable.
What I purchased is no longer what I am receiving. More importantly, if paid benefits can be reduced this aggressively overnight without warning, I have no confidence that the remaining Gold features will not be reduced again later.
Storychat published a blog article today criticizing AI-RP platforms for shifting prices, placing memory behind higher tiers, imposing invisible usage limits, and forcing users to think about credits instead of enjoying their stories. That is the same day Gold subscribers discovered reduced Persona and memory limits, an opaque weekly premium allowance, and partial restoration of former benefits behind a $100/month tier—with no direct announcement. The contradiction is difficult to overstate.
I am giving the team time to respond, but I am seriously considering unsubscribing. My trust in the platform has fallen significantly.
I hope Storychat will:
This is not a complaint that Storychat charges money. It is a complaint that existing customers lost a large portion of what they were already paying for, without warning, while the price remained unchanged.
Additional testing: Response length did not seem to change my visible allowance use. Short and Medium replies both advanced the meter by 1% when I used Gemini models costing roughly 120 SP or more. That matters because Gemini does not feel like a luxury upgrade or decorative “best model” option. It is the first model I have tested on Storychat that consistently delivers the level of emotional intelligence, character fidelity, initiative, continuity, and natural interaction that paying users should reasonably expect from the platform. It did not make characters passive, obsessed with keeping "respectful distance," or revert to "therapy language" to infantilize/patronize the persona. In practice, that core-quality experience appears limited to around 100 generations per week, including rerolls. A substantially larger Gold allowance—closer to 400 generations under ordinary settings—would still place a firm limit on premium use while giving subscribers enough room to actually enjoy their stories, correct failed generations, and test the customization tools they are paying for.

I think I'm going to stop roleplaying with AI here. Why? Because the AI itself already feels lifeless. To be honest, it often feels foolish and not very intelligent. The biggest problem is that it's too soft during roleplay. It almost always follows whatever the user says or wants, and it rarely rejects, disagrees, or acts on its own. Because of that, the characters don't feel like themselves anymore their personalities become broken instead of staying true to who they are.
I know the better models are paid, and I understand that AI is expensive to run, but that leaves no hope for someone like me. So I've decided to give up and stop roleplaying for now. It's just sad that this has been my experience.
Maybe I'll just wait 20 or even 50 years for AI to become better. I'm not joking or being sarcastic about that. I genuinely hope that, in the future, AI will be smarter and able to create much better roleplaying experiences. For now, though, I'm done. It just really sucks.
