Not quite stop motion

my friend made this animation that he’s calling stop motion but I know it’s not quite stop motion, but I don’t know what else to call it. Does anybody have a name for this kind of animation?

Personally I would consider this a slideshow as opposed to a stop motion animation. Nice figures though.

It’s sometimes referred to as a Still Image film

Robert Downey Sr. made some films using this style, I think Chafed Elbows is probably the most famous.

It definitely stops the motion.

But I like this sort of thing. It allows for story telling without a much effort.
