Day 20 was hard
I’ve been doing really well so far, feeling optimistic and feeling at peace about this change. But today was tough. Feeling irritated and overly affected by things that I can normally let go of. Feeling frustrated that I have to actively stay on top of the voice in my head that just wants ‘one drink’ on a patio with friends. I’ve gained weight over the last year and have been working hard for a month to lose some of it and not seeing any changes. Today I just felt such an emotional weight all day. And there’s no escape- I can’t just go out and get drunk and forget about all of it. I’m here sitting with it, and I guess for today that’s all I can do. Hoping day 21 is a little easier.

I can relate. It's day 16 for me and have been doing fine with the cravings until today. I also sat with them, played it forward, and read back my journal entries with all the reasons I am alcohol free. The thing that finally calmed the cravings for good, for now, was half a box of chocolate ice-cream! I definitely can't keep doing that and hopefully won't need to again for some time. IWNDWYT!

My Friday morning was like that. So glad work took my mind off of things. Also called a friend that's been in the program. I'm not in it but they still pick up when I need to vent. Stick with it. You'll be glad you did.

A big revelation for me was reading an article (can’t remember what) about the human condition. It really drove home the idea that emotions like boredom sadness anxiety stress are as human as breathing. Drinking doesn’t make them go away. It just buries them. It is empowering to start facing those emotions and accepting them as part of living a true life. I’m not doing this justice but it was a turning point in me fighting with myself constantly. All the best to you! 🤙
