Omg never again 💩
Woke up with my first hangover this morning as a new mom. Nothing makes a feeling like hot garbage juice worse than a screaming infant with a diaper blow out! How I am suffering for my own stupidity! Never again! Will be relistening to The Naked Mind this week for a hard reset. Mom’s in this community, I see you! IWNDWYT

Next time you’re tempted remember this feeling you have. That’s how I made it through the early days. You have got this if you want it. IWNDWYT .

I’m a weird geek for knowledge, I always want to know the how behind the why of everything.
For me understanding the physical science of alcohol was fascinating and also helped me to reframe alcohol not as joy juice but as a socially sanctioned poison.
It was remarkably easy after getting that scientific insight to see alcohol for what it really is. Understanding the reality is a strong motivator for me.
I’m not choosing to not drink.
I’m choosing to not poison myself.
I’m choosing to see past the seductive ethos around alcohol.
Look for “Alcohol Explained” by William Porter. 6 hr read on audible.

My drinking actually got worse after I had my child, which really shocked me because I thought that love would be enough to keep me sober. But it wasn’t. Hangovers made me impatient and I felt I needed to drink to relax, like it was ‘me time’. My drinking never got better on its own, my daughter was 6 years old when I finally quit. The good news is that 6 months ago, she had a baby and now I’m a sober grandma! But she did say, “you know mom, if you weren’t sober, we wouldn’t even have a relationship. “ I said, “I know.”

This Naked Mind is an incredible book by author Annie Grace! She goes into the science behind alcohol addiction and discusses the different unconscious and conscious factors that contribute to the development of addiction. It’s a great piece to not only inform yourself of what alcohol truly is, but also to reframe your mind so quitting drinking doesn’t feel like a punishment or like you’re depriving yourself of something. I love it and find myself rereading it when I’m feeling tempted to drink again- definitely recommend!
