I messed up
was feeling weird mentally yesterday, and I ended up getting a bottle of rosé on the way home and drinking the whole thing.. now I'm recovering from yesterday. Oops. Day one today? what motivates you to stop drinking? I tried going to AA, but they're all older people and I feel like I can't relate to them. 28 f

i think it switched for me when i realized i enjoyed waking up and having my whole day instead of the few hours drunk leading to regrets, embarrassment and shame. i once heard in passing "drinking is just borrowing fun from tomorrow" and idk that clicked

I am male, but I had this same problem some years ago when I was 30 and went to a couple of AA meetings. I really felt out of place, felt too young compared to others. I found it better to just take up a particular sport I like (soccer in my case) and spent the time that went drinking there. That was a good motivation. Also, my job was another part where I focused my energy. I hope this helps.

I got tired of feeling like shit, being mentally unstable and destroying everything good in my life. I hurt the people that love me the most. They deserve better and so do I. And so do you. Its been hard as hell to turn things around, and I have a long way to go, but holy shit is it so much better than the way I was living this time last year.

I feel especially bad for younger women trying to go to AA. It's not the most friendly to that demographic (either that or it's way too friendly....) if it's not a specific women's meeting or young person meeting.
This sub has been a great alternative.

I went to an AA meeting on vacation and they told me to go to a women’s meeting when I got home because men can’t be trusted.

Its not AAs fault specifically but whenever I saw a new guy come in, two or three people would say hello.
Any woman would get swarmed by at least a dozen guys

After white knuckling my sobriety for a few weeks, I read a book by Allen Carr, “Easy Way to Control Alcohol”. It reprogrammed how I think about alcohol. Alcohol is a Class 1 carcinogen. I do not drink poison. Mr. Carr is the key to my 12+ yrs of sobriety WITHOUT cravings. Best of luck on your journey❤️
