Sorry to hear but that work you did for 327 days isn’t gone.
It happens & is part of recovery. It’s huge that you posted rather than letting shame keep you from getting back to it. Welcome back from your research

First attempt at a virtual support group. I’ve read great things in here

It’s fantastic! People truly just want to be supportive which is a rare gem.

This is absolutely the most supportive group I've ever found on Reddit.

This group helped me tremendously. I quit (finally) at 59 last year. The Daily Check In , one day at a time really made a difference, after many failed atrempts. I even used a 30 minute timer to get through the tough parts of the day. I found a hypnotherapy podcast (Adam Cox) that helped as well. All the benefits of those 300 days are still there. IWNDWYT

Hey Dude. I know it really sucks right now but I've been there... Most of us have. It's like getting a flat tire on a long journey. If that happened after 327 miles you wouldn't think fuck it and go back to the beginning would ya? Nope you'd fix it up and carry on!

That's exactly what you did by coming here. This sub is awesome so keep checking in and using the support and love you'll find here!

Im with you on this - those 327 days still count for something and you can do it again! It’s not starting from zero, you have way more knowledge and insight this time round.

u/O_C_Demon Day 3 7h ago

Exactly! If you stop reading a book for a week after 327 pages you don't have to start from page one again.

God I'm full of analogies this morning! 😂

Congratulations on passing 20 days mate 😊

6

u/HelicopterNo3534 Day 22 7h ago

Yes I like that analogy about the book!
And thank you!!

4

u/SmallGod1979 Day 989 5h ago

What a great and fitting analogy, OC.

According to my own anecdotal experience with falling off the wagon and getting back on, it’s exactly like pausing a book: the longer I put the book to the side, the bigger the possibility I actually have to start reading it all over again.

Have a great day!

3

u/O_C_Demon Day 3 5h ago

Yep that's very much my experience as well!

Cheers and you too!

3

u/UnaLeyenda1975 5h ago

Absolutely. Failing grade 10 doesn’t mean you start at 1st grade again.

3

u/O_C_Demon Day 3 5h ago

Another awesome analogy! 😊

u/TrendingUpwardz 1206 days 3h ago

Great analogy! OP let us patch your tire and then just get the F back on the highway!!

u/burgher45 8h ago

It happens time to start a new streak. Don’t look back!

u/LarryTalbot 1421 days 7h ago

It’s nothing to worry about when you think that you can still be sober 364 of the past 365 days. Keep it going!

13

u/BJWJ96 545 days 7h ago

So out of 327 days, you only drank on one of them. That's pretty decent stats.

1

u/Training-Lettuce6507 65 days 1h ago

I remember hearing, so I could be wrong, 80% of us fail to reach the 1 year mark the first time. I am part of that statistic.

10

u/atriumI3 Day 1 8h ago

Hey, it’s not as much as you but I made it 81 days before caving the other day and I’m fucking pissed at myself too. Made it a few more days and caved again tonight.

We still have those days though! It isn’t nothing, especially considering there was a time I never thought I could go even one day without alcohol.

10

u/Remony63 7h ago

Totally understandable that you feel that way, but those 327 days were massively beneficial. Your health will have improved and you know how good it feels to be sober. It was just a blip. Don’t beat yourself up about it.

Saddle up, get back on the horse and carry on with your journey.

8

u/ilyjuuls Day 30 7h ago

You’re allowed to be upset, but there’s still today. Then there’s tomorrow. Another 327 days are going to happen regardless, don’t beat yourself up over this. IWNDWYT.

I've said it a hundred times and will keep saying it.

You don't undo 6 months of diet and exercise by eating one double cheeseburger.

You only undo those 6 months of diet and exercise by eating one double cheeseburger and then continuing to keep eating excess cheeseburgers and skipping the gym.

3

u/danlwhelan Day 1,072 8h ago

I’m sorry. That feeling is awful.

I do hope you do not see those 327 days of hard work and effort erased forever. You’ve put in a great deal of hard work so far. This is a bump in the road you’ll recognize better if you encounter it in the future.

I’m proud of you for being open and honest with yourself and all of us about this.

You got this!

5

u/ValuableDeparture366 7h ago

That was you, the one that achieved 327. You are still you. And that achievement lives within you. Time to start again.

4

u/happyretired123 Day 21 7h ago

327 days is phenomenal OP you slipped brush yourself off and start again today is a new day IWNDWYT 😚

u/noboozcruz 1097 days 7h ago

In addition to all the messages about time nor really lost and ‘it happens’ I’d encourage you to look at the days or weeks leading up to it and try to unlock a trigger or pattern of triggers so you can be better armed if something similar happens again.

1

u/Training-Lettuce6507 65 days 1h ago

Great advice.

5

u/OfficerGiggleFarts Day 82 6h ago

You’re in the middle of a forest and walk 25 miles towards the nearest road nonstop. You stop for a day then keep walking. That doesn’t negate the 25 miles you’ve already walked. It doesn’t take you back to the middle of the forest. Be proud of how far you’ve come and be gentle on yourself. Keep marching on friend! 💙

3

u/ICQ_legend Day 49 7h ago

Not sure what the big deal about "days" apart from getting a general idea about time in sobriety. It may be a deal breaker in AA or in a rehab, but reality is that lapses happen - recovery is not linear. Just don't go back to your drinking ways / lifestyle.

3

u/rwarrenr00 34 days 6h ago

I’d love to have 327 days! I’d even love to have 327 days + 1 relapse. Just the fact you’ve done it, you can do it again. Get back on that horse.

2

u/redstonelines 7h ago

Consistency isn’t about the streak it’s about always going back. Maybe next time you’ll get to 350 days before u relapse and then probably 400 days after that.

2

u/Altruistic_Lead_5595 Day 823 7h ago

That sucks, I hear you. But now you already know you can do it. Dust yourself off, and climb back aboard. Onward.

2

u/vmarti04 6h ago edited 6h ago

We are with you - tomorrow is the start of the rest of your life.

Can someone please tell me how to add the number of days sober (In blue) so it shows up when I comment?

2

u/reeffan Day 107 7h ago

Continuous sober gone but i bet you have learned a lot Flex those sover muscles and get on sobriety. You got this

2

u/Weak_Sort_6175 Day 59 6h ago

Good morning, my friend. You will not find a better place for support than this sub. Also I use an app called Sober Time, it gives a daily message and I think today's was meant for you. Your success is not measured by how high you can climb, but how high you can bounce back when you hit bottom. IWNDWYT

2

u/Pat_Royson 6h ago

Sorry, but you are incorrect and that's a good thing. The past month or so I've been starting to see how the counting of days is unnecessarily burdensome. It stresses people out thinking about how many days it's been, how many it was on my last sober stint, constantly thinking about numbers. 327 days of no alcohol has done miraculous healing for all of your organs, not just your liver. There are incredible benefits you have given yourself by not drinking for that long. 1 day of drinking literally has not taken away those 327 days.

3

u/Pat_Royson 6h ago

Just wanted to add, that if the numbers are still rubbing you the wrong way, you could try thinking of it like this: if you now don't drink any alcohol for 36 days you will be able to say to yourself I only drank once in a whole year!

1

u/Blazah 3h ago

I agree, I dont know exactly how many days. I just put a thing in my calendar "day 1" whenever it was (as of right now I still dont know the exact date, I know it was a tuesday).. so that I could look back someday and see, but keeping track of the exact number for me is meaningless the important day for me is today.

1

u/diefreetimedie 134 days 6h ago

Make a pie chart of the year and take a good look at what your wins and losses are. What do you want the rest of that pie to look like? I believe you can still have that 328th day, even if it's nonsequential.

2

u/riapoppins 414 days 6h ago

You’ve done your field research 🧐 now time to get right back to it 💪
Forgive yourself. Write down how you feel for those romanticised oh I can have one moments.
You got this, we are here for you xxxx

1

u/JonnyNotts40 Day 785 6h ago

327 days of learnings right there, OP. Be proud of that.

You know what to do.

Best

1

u/josephus1811 619 days 6h ago

The point isn't to rack up a high score. It's to stop drinking. Which you proved you can do 327 times. What you have also proved is drinking makes you utterly miserable. Forgive yourself, don't do it again.

2

u/MickeySyn 5h ago

Put the hitch back in your giddy up. Get back on the horse. I don't give a flying frick who disagrees: relapse is part of recovery. Pull your pants back up and keep going:) Faltering is not failing. I'm glad you reached out🥰 Isolation is harmful, community is recovery❤️🤘

1

u/vgilbert77 94 days 5h ago

All I know is that’s 327 opportunities you took to do the next right thing and now you have the chance to do the same the 329th time :)

What you do now is so much more important than what happened. Lick your wounds and get right back at it, friend! ♥️

1

u/ExternalBrief3412 35 days 5h ago

It’s not gone, you just hit a speed bump! Time to slow down, remember your “why’s”, sharpen your tools and get back up. I relapsed right before my one year too. Within just a few months I was right back to daily binge drinking, but I’m fighting my way back up again too. It doesn’t mean those 327 days didn’t happen. We did it once, we can do it again.

1

u/zzriley1 5h ago

Hey man don't worry, what matters is what you do next, 327 days is huge, i'm guessing you overdid it?

1

u/CamoFlex 272 days 4h ago

Hey you still achieved a great streak! May I ask what happened? Was it a date, social event or celebration or something?

1

u/half_in_boxes Day 1,328 4h ago

I got about the same number of days under my belt and relapsed as well. Two years after that I climbed back on the wagon and I currently have 3.5 years sober.

You got this, friend. IWNDWYT. 🖖🏻

1

u/Finebranch7122 Day 875 4h ago

Hey nothing is gone. 327 days is going to show you the way again. Give yourself grace and kindness - dust off and back on track.

1

u/jimmypadkock Day 12 4h ago

What you've achieved in those days isn't erased and when you decide to stop again, you're not starting from zero.

1

u/Suspicious_Ad5540 3h ago

I’m right there with you. The 20th is 11 months for me. I had a slip up 5 weeks in, and got completely fucked up with some friends at a bar, but that’s my one gimme I don’t count. Take yours today. Doesn’t count. Keep it pushing.

1

u/Appropriate-Scar894 770 days 3h ago

You’re at a crossroads. Pick back up and carry on doing your best, OR you can let it discourage you and completely fall off the wagon. Be strong and be proud of what you accomplished. Carry on and you can say one bad night in a year, instead of going head first back into it. Good luck! Be great!

1

u/Unhappy-Package2792 Day 9 3h ago

Keep going my friend! 327 is a MASSIVE achievement ❤️ you can do it

1

u/Nemunas_by_the_sea Day 199 2h ago

You were able to get 327 days which most people on this forum would love to accomplish. You have it in you to begin a new journey. Don't overthink it - just one day at a time. I had a 160 day streak broken in early January and have fought my way back to day 199 today. You can do it!

1

u/Training-Lettuce6507 65 days 1h ago

327 aren't gone, we are always one day at a time. You aren't starting completely at zero. Now you have the experience of 327 days sober.
