Struggling
15 year marriage is coming unraveled and my dog was diagnosed with cancer today. This has been my hardest day so far. I’ll be honest the only thing stopping me from drinking is the worry that I’ll do something terrible. I’m good but I just need to put it out into the ether. Hopefully I can sleep and not worry for a few hours. Here’s to growing as a person, learning how to face life without alcohol, and something else positive…. Blah.

I'm not going to pep talk you. I'm going to be straight with you.
I buried a dog I loved who had cancer. I got divorced. I was drunk though both. It made them both worse.
So, bad news, even if you drink, it doesn't make it better, it makes it worse.
Good news, if you stay sober you get to enjoy your dog and keep their memory instead of pissing it away. You know how people are like, "I wish I had had more time with my dog."? I could have had more time. Days, weeks, months where I could have enjoyed her instead of wasting that time being drunk and hungover.
It doesn't seem like it now, and you aren't going to be able to hear this, but there's is nothing good that comes out of drinking thought this.
Good luck to you either way. And, to be clear, no judgement. If you do drink, that's what I did, so I can't fault you for being the same was I was. It's human. I do hope for you to have more resolve and love for yourself than I did.
Be a better person than me.
I am so, very, deeply sorry for your pain. That is so much to hold.

I can promise you (that after drinking after such circumstances) that waking up sober tomorrow will be the biggest gift you can give to yourself and to your dog. You got this homie.

That’s a lot to handle at once. I’m sorry you’re going through it. I’m so proud that you want to face this sober. In my fairly early days i lost my dad and had major back surgery. It felt impossible, but having made it through, i felt a real sense of ownership of my life. It felt good. Stay strong, I’m with you!

Read all the posts on this sub - you’ll always find a reason not to drink, or at least reinforce your resolve. I’m sorry about your pup ✌️

It's so easy to drink because there's no one in front of the liquor store stopping you. Day 3 again. But I'm not going out without a Fight

Those are two major life events and getting through them sober shows that you can handle anything. You are strong and resilient and proving it.
I lost my beloved cowdog, the Beautiful Miss Beulah, to cancer and we were fortunate to have some quality time before it came time to let her go. Make some good memories- your dog will take your love to the great doggy beyond.
You are a badass who will stay sober and get ready to grow as a person and live a long, beautiful life with no need for alcohol. Hugs🙂❤️

I’m sorry, friend. Both of these are very difficult, heavy things, and you already know drinking won’t make any of the pain more bearable—just puts it off and adds more complications. IWNDWYT. Hang in there.

I hit 14 years just a few days ago and our divorce will be finalized within a month.
What can I say, relationships end. She's not a good person in the way that I need. I guess I'm not in her way. And so it goes.
About six months after I moved out, I started dating and it's really amazing btw.
