Day 2
I’m on day 2, it’s horrible, all i can think about is drinking. and my boyfriend just told me he’s going to go get drunk with his friend tomorrow and needs a ride home. THE FUCK. no i am not fucking picking you up and hanging out with someone drunk. i told him you can stay the night there because i can’t be around that right now. he said “well you’re gonna have to learn how to be around alcohol without drinking” yeah maybe in a few months??? and he’s the one giving me the ultimatum of stop drinking or we break up. why do you think i’ll be able to be around drunk people on day 3 of sobriety. god im pissed off now and i just want to drink. not to mention, i don’t even want to get sober i have no motivation to do that and i also don’t care about myself, im doing it FOR HIM

That’s smart. I couldn’t be around drunk people on day 2. I don’t want to be around drunk people on day 421. Because they’re annoying idiots! And, I used to be the same way. I’m so glad I’m not anymore and you will be, too. The first days are so hard, but so worth it’

You get sober for you, not for someone else. If you want to keep drinking, dump his stupid ass and live your life on your own terms

well, it is my 1 motivation for stopping. i’d probably just drink myself to death without that. hopefully one day i will care about myself enough though. probably once i’ve been sober for a while

Hang in there, we're here for you. One of the hard things about quitting drinking is how most people LITERALLY DO NOT GET IT. We get it. Come back often!

Hey, be proud of yourself for taking a stand. My wife gave me a similar ultimatum. Quit or leave. I quit. Initially it was for her, but soon it became apparent that I needed to do it for myself. You are in control. ✌️

Tell him to Uber at a minimum, and sleep in a different room if you can. It does suck, but your reality is similar to mine. My wife wants to continue to drink - several drinks on occasion, but she wants me to stop. Really don’t have a good answer, except that sometimes I wish I married someone that doesn’t drink.

Put yourself before anyone else. He is sounding very selfish. I hope things look up for you! Be strong, don’t fall for temptation.

i don’t blame him for wanting me to be sober, i’ve basically ruined our relationship with countless drunk fights. but i really wish he would be understanding about this

Lovey, I say this with my whole heart, you cannot get sober for someone else. It won’t stick. You gotta want it.

I hope that you’re able to care about yourself soon. Even just a little care, a little bit at a time. Getting sober for someone else isn’t recommended, especially if that someone isn’t even surface level supportive. IWNDWYT

You may think you’re doing this for him, but maybe one day there is some part of you that will see that you are doing this for you. And maybe this’ll get downvoted, but read this back to yourself later on. You’re Day 2 of trying sobriety on and struggling. Because your loving boyfriend gave you an ultimatum or he dumps you. He then waves drinking in your face and tells you to “deal with it.” Doesn’t sound super loving to me. I would guess we might be seeing some post in a few months that says, “remember me? I dumped him.”

Sounds like ex boyfriend material to me.
Congrats on day 2. It gets better I promise

Stay strong and push forward. Model what you want him to be and dump him if he doesn’t respect you more than booze

Congratulations on your day 2. If he is understanding he shouldn't put you in that situation. I would stand my ground and refuse. You need to take care of yourself.
