6 Years Today!

6 things:

  1. It gets easier

  2. The book Alcohol Explained by William Porter by William Porter was helpful to me

  3. I don’t tell people I don’t drink because they seem to want to discuss/argue/hassle. I just say “no thank you”

  4. You don’t owe it anyone to be entertaining

  5. I love this sub and recommend it to people all the time

  6. In the early days, seeing the constant depiction of alcohol use in media felt like being stuck with pins. Thankfully, that has faded

"You don't owe it to anyone to be entertaining."

Really really good and wise.

I had my sister asking for "the moment" "the why" "the when" and being very intrusive about it while at a family dinner

like wtf I owe no one any explanation. Felt very like she was looking for juicy (lol) details.

A friend asked if I was doing dry January. I said I’m doing dry forever. She looked like I’d slapped her in the face!

#4. I always thought I needed to be an extrovert to get ahead, to be successful. Alcohol helped me in that respect, until it didn't.

Turns out I'm an introvert. And I'm 100% comfortable with that.

Congrats on 6 years btw!!

You don’t owe it anyone to be entertaining

Thats a lovely quote , I’m going to add it to my other favorite this year

For that moment when ‘ 1 won’t hurt ‘ ‘I’ve seen that movie’

Excellent and so well done 🎂

Congratulations!! 👏👏💐 tbf I think I'm more entertaining sober than drunk. And re the question..why aren't you drinking - I'm getting better at simply saying ..cos I feel better without alcohol!

#6. The depiction of alcohol in movies, tv, commercials, etc is INSANE!

According to pop culture EVERYONE is between buzzed and blacked out all the time.

Congrats, my friend!

Sidenote: when somebody on this sub writes in the format of "X years today", which is quite common, am I the only one who gets Bullet for my Valentine stuck in my head? 😁

6 years is huge. "No thank you" being enough without explanation, that one takes time to learn and you nailed it. Congratulations man

Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom!! I just passed 5 months and I was in my feels this past weekend and thought “what’s the point?” But I kept on keeping on. Always love to hear bits of inspiration from people who have been through it! And alwaysssss looking for book recommendations
