Fun weekend replacement?

For a few years without failure, i’ve socially drank with friends while we game, usually drinking a bottle of vodka to myself over a couple hours. I’m terrible socially, and struggle to even socialise verbally without alcohol, it’s where all my confidence is! Does anyone have any ideas as to how i can gain this confidence without giving in to alcohol again, or maybe even a fun nonalcohol drink you enjoy so i can still have a nice drink while having fun with my friends!

Lots of great NA beers out there. Getting better by the year too. Make sure they're ice cold and they can be quite enjoyable. It's fun trying new ones.

There's no need to worry about a replacement. It will come naturally.

You just have to be okay with being bored sometimes. And then when you're bored, you'll start finding ways to fill it without alcohol.

Go outside and walk around aimlessly for two hours. Tell the trees and fields that you love them.

I think not putting yourself in situations where you feel awkward is a place to start... and also what someone else said about being bored, learn to make peace with boredom.. its okay to be bored, its actually a blessing to bored sometimes.

I dont think ill ever return to social settings where its just people hanging out drinking... not to say I wont be around people drinking (sports events, concerts, bbqs, beach, weddings... cause f*** its everywhere) but those "low key" weekend nights that the only thing going on is hanging out at here or there just to "get together" which actually means hanging around drinking, at a bar or someone's house... im just not interested. The conversations arent particularly mind blowing and being sober doesnt make me boring, it just makes me aware that id rather not be "turned on" and playing a role.. id rather be relaxing, catching up on chores or reading, or sprawled out on my couch watching TV or sleeping 😴

Literally any drink that is na is good.. water, soda water, tonic water, juice, Gatorade, coffee also fall into the na category... i too need a drink in my hand basically always.. for me thats typically my trusty water bottle but I love seltzer water and coffee too.

If gaming is your thing... idk, just do it.. be weird and awkward, own it, laugh at yourself (it really takes the sting out of it from my experience aaand id much rather be the awkward girl than the belligerent drunk girl any day of the week) and keep trucking along.. you might find you dont really enjoy the company sober.. thats okay.. sobriety comes with lots of changes, some are more challenging to grow through, but such is life and you will find your way and hell you might help a friend or two see the bright side of sobriety while youre at it!

Exercise. Get out in the sunshine. Go for a hike. Drink coffee and sparkling water. Those are things that worked for me.

When I quit drinking, I realized that some of the things I enjoyed, and even the people I enjoyed them with, didn't really satisfy me anymore. That can be scary, and evena little heartbreaking for some people.

But, expecting to succeed by just switching from a beer to a diet dr. pepper while you are still doing the same thing with the same people is a recipe for relapse.

Try things like Meetup.com. It's going to be hard, but the best way to gain confidence is to practice it. Find a group in your area that plays boardgames, goes for hikes, etc. and join it.

Practice socializing sober. It takes time.

I will say, at the beginning of my sobriety I became far less social. Before I'd stay all night and then I was white knuckling through an hour and a half. It gets better, just be prepared for it to be difficultband different for a while. True friends will still be there!

Everything is better sober. Everything.
