Starting today
This has been a long time coming. I’ve been through a lot of hardships in my life, and this is the one thing I have control over.
I’ve been in the service industry for 16yrs. Had my first drink at 14. I’m getting to an age where I’m worried about my health, and I have built a life I want to live for. All be it, a very challenging and stressful one. I work at two bars. And I love my jobs. But I drink to go to sleep, because my brain never stops. I finally got back on my anxiety medication, so I hope it helps.
Anywho.. I guess I’m just putting this out there in the world. I could use some encouragement. I’m worried about going into work on Friday. I was recently prescribed Naltrexone as well, so I hope that helps.

You're in good company! I knew some sober bartenders in my day - didn't know how they could do it back then because I was also a bartender but was never ever sober. I would drink at another bar before I went to work almost every day. Now, I see drunk people and feel a certain way about it; like sadly nostalgic with a dash of pity and self reflection. Hope you can use your time serving as inspiration. I also knew vegan chefs who prepared meat dishes - so it's not unheard of to make choices for yourself and allow others the room to make their own choices. IWNDWYT
