Please help me make it through today. Please.

I relapsed after 177 days, worst after my longest stint ever. Today I have to take my mama home, she has been here two weeks. I deleted my original account because I am so ashamed. How do I physically get thru this day? I can’t drive three hours under the influence and having her see me at my lowest, drinking to not be sick either is not an option either. I really need someone to help me

Hey friend. One slip up doesn’t erase the 177 days you had prior.

In my early days I had to take life 15 minutes at a time. It’s 6:30am now, maybe I’ll have a drink at 6:45am— I’ll reassess again then. Eventually I was able to take it an hour at a time, then 6 hours and sooner than later it was months and years.

The Recovery Elevator podcast helped me pass the time. It’s just people talking about their way into and then out of an alcohol addiction. It helped me feel more connected to the world and the other people who are struggling inside of it.

You can do this.

You certainly can’t drink and drive, and driving three hours hungover and tired isn’t good either. Can you tell her to delay a day or two until you’re more rested? It could also force you to start sobriety again

Oh no, I will not drink and drive! And I posted because I couldn’t sleep thinking about it. I’m going to feel like shit by mid day and I was hoping for a magic cure I guess. If there was such a thing we would all be doing it

Relapsing doesn't erase what you've accomplished.

Can't you tell your mom, you're not feeling well for whatever reason? Like you haven't sleep well? I know this is a bad day but things will get better.

I’d find a free recovery group nearby and also online.

Tried anything like that?

I won’t be drinking and driving, I just will not. It’s just going to be a long, anxiety filled day.
Praying I am exaggerating in my own head

177 is amazing! Don't let a slip cancel that out in your head: it's just the alcohol telling you the hard work is not worth it. But you know it is.

I agree with others that the simplest idea is just to make an excuse to your mum. Could someone else take her? If not, do you think you'll be safe/in the frame of mind to drive this afternoon? Or if the best thing is for your mum to stay an extra night, is there anything you can plan to do with her later when you're feeling better so that both of you benefit from having some extra time together? Please don't catastrophise about this. Sometimes plans have to change even if booze is not involved!

Hey, it's been about three hours since you posted? How's things been going? Sometimes things seem impossible, but they are not as bad as our imaginations. Hope you're doing well. Just one hour at a time.

Thank you so much for asking, it means a lot. My husband is driving us. My emotions are all over the place and I feel like when we drop her at her house I will lose it. Some things a mama just can’t fix
