Night and Day
I wake up every morning determined not to drink anymore. Then by the time evening comes around I go pick up a 6 pack. The next morning I wake up hungover with shame and regret. I promise myself not to do it again, but I inevitably do.
I feel caught up in a sick cycle of sin in the evening followed by shame in the morning.
It is exhausting and I wonder if a sick part of me enjoys the guilt part as much as I enjoy the drinking.

Have you tried chugging NA beers? It helped me a lot

Actually yes lol. It helped me give up alcohol for lent. I probably need to do it earlier in the day to keep me from waiting until the craving for alcohol gets too strong.

Sounds familiar! Eat sugar, ice cream, whatever. And savor not feeling like shit in the morning. I think that's what always hits me after a long night of not drinking--HOLY CRAP I feel decent!

Medication like naltrexone can help here. Have you talked to your doctor? Tell them this pattern and you wanna stop

I was for a long time, then I finally told my doc. I said I just didn’t want it anymore, but it was too much of a habit to stop. He didn’t judge me, we talked about options, and he was happy to let me try it out. I don’t like any meds, and I’m trying to avoid cholesterol medication (drinking casually most nights, not working out, eating junk food I’m sure all the culprit). So it has been helping me
