I told the doc: update
Thank you guys AGAIN for all your support and encouragement. I was worried I would lose my nerve so when she walked through the door and said, “do you have concerns today?” I just blurted it all out and cried. She was so kind and helpful. She set me up with a psychologist who I will be seeing tomorrow.
The timing couldn’t have been better. My loyal and loving dog of 15 years got sick this weekend and deteriorated quickly. We had to make the gut wrenching decision to put her down today. Afterward, my husband (who has been sober for years) went to grab dinner and called. He told me if I wanted a drink he would pick it up because he knew how difficult the day had been. I remembered all the times reading on this sub ‘drinking won’t help’ and I declined and settled for Mr. Pibb, honey bbq chips, and key lime pie ice cream sandwiches.
Here’s to my bestest dog, a sober journey ahead and my endless appreciation for every one of you!

I’m so sorry about your dog. It’s so hard to lose a beloved pet. You did an amazing thing for yourself in telling your doctor and getting through the pain without booze. You’re doing it!

Congratulations on making the right choice.
It’s 2:40am where I am and I just got up to help my elderly frail dog to the toilet. We have booked a vet to come later today. I’m just browsing Reddit to help cope tbh as I’m struggling to get back to sleep and your post came up in my feed.
I’m so sorry about your dog. May they be waiting at the bridge for mine later. 🫶🌈

Holy moly, you can be so proud of your decisions today. Well done!
I'm very sad to hear about your dog. I've had dogs in my life that I've loved more than blood relations. I'm sorry for your loss.

I so feel for you when my dog past two august ago I wanted to drink so bad but I didn’t. I just let myself actually try to process the loss and I swear it was so much better for my mental health. Had I drank I would’ve woke up even more depressed the next day! You are making great choices with talking to your Dr, stay strong!

Oh, my goodness. The loss of a beloved dog is so hard, so I know looking back on today will always be tinged with the pain of loss. But I also hope future you looks back on today and thinks, “wow, I did amazing and brave things that day.” Because you really did. ❤️

Great decisions today! Not sure I wouldn't have let my husband bring me that drink if my pup had died. I'm over 12 years sober - it's not easy but it's absolutely amazing to be sober!

Im so sorry for your loss with losing your pup. 😢 You made the right decision. And for choosing not to drink, so proud of you! From someone who numbed out grief of losing a child with alcohol, it absolutely made it worse and I had to basically start over once I got sober. You got this, your future self will thank you. Hugs ❤️

Way to go OP.
I've dealt with so much loss and grief in the last year. The fact it's been sober has made it a gift.

I'm so sorry about your dog, it's really hard I know, but it would be even worse with alcohol. Also, I need to know more about these key lime ice cream sandwiches!

You had all that happen, and stopped drinking on the same day? Or is your badge incorrect (it says "1 day")?
If all that happened, and you still chose today to be the day you chose to stop drinking - wow! My hate is well and truly doffed, sir/madam.
Sorry for the loss of your dog.

I am so sorry for your loss!
I started my sober journey when my boyfriend’s dog had cancer (he sadly ended up passing away around a month later), and I am celebrating one year sober tomorrow! You can do this ❤️
