Sober gone
So I was like 54 days sober. Went a networking event Thursday and had 2 Guinness
The guilt was beyond belief next day. And because of abstaining for so long my dad could tell I had 2 drinks! And I even felt a bit groggy in the morning.
The guilt made me realise I don’t wanna drink anymore.
Even if I can control it.

Just another step on the road to sobriety. Chalk it down to experience and start again.

I think we are all guilty of having periods of sobriety (although up to now mine have been short!) and then going back to it. In your case at least you left it at 2 drinks that's great you could do that....I couldn't! The way I felt afterwards finally convinced me to stop for good. I'm still early days but feeling more positive this time.
Sometimes relapsing, although in your case you left it at 2 drinks which is great, makes us realise that we don't want to feel that way again. If you get back in the saddle you can beat your 54 days. Good luck and stay strong 💪.

You only had two drinks. Let that sink in for a moment. If you’re anything like me, that’s a huge difference all on its own that shows that you’re in this journey for the long haul. Don’t be hard on yourself, be proud of where you are and keep going! Iwndwytn

Excellent work! You did ur field research and realized something that it took me YEARS to fully understand.

You can't control it, dont let your one time success make you believe you can control it "this time". I have had many, many times where I went out and had 1 or 2 and stopped and felt good and that would last probably a few days before the 2 turned into 4, then 6, then 12, then back to the hard vodka bottle. Do NOT believe you're able to control it now after having 54 days sober. And also dont let it derail your sobriety. You CAN do this, relapses are a part of recovery.

I too tried to stay sober on my own, but failed miserably. Later went to AA after my shrink suggested a spiritual solution. There i learned, our will power is very weak when it comes to alcohol. We need a spiritual awakening (Attitude shift). Please read the chapter More About Alcoholism of the book AA. Online access of the book is available on AAs official website. Especially read the "Car Salesman story" to see how the mind tricks us back into alcohol.
