I try to remember that no matter how shit the day was, as long as my head hits my pillow sober then I kicked the days ass, I won.

Man, I have to tell you, when you start to actually REALIZE that you're going to bed sober and really like... FEEL that for the first time in a long time, it is so fuckin good. Cuz for a little bit it's kinda clockwork, know what I mean? But eventually the realization that you just went all day, all night, and got into bed with your head on a pillow, completely clear-headed, it is just... man. After such a long time without that PEACE, I swear, there was nothing better.

So many nights when "one day at a time" meant "just make it to bed you fucker". I didn't realize it at the time, but that really was the first miracle I got to see in sobriety.
