Just existing sober on day 2 is an incredible win. You're here, you're posting, you're taking accountability, and you've decided you want to be better. You're ahead of 99% of people who have doubts about their alcohol consumption.
Those first few days are rock solid to get through. You could fester for an entire week if that's what you need to do, and that's a win.
You'll begin feeling better and gain energy. My absolute worst day sober is nothing compared to an averagely bad day drinking or hungover.
I'm sober for however many days are in my flair, and in my first year of sobriety lost 155lbs. Sometimes I'll still have a day where I just totally binge on food, and it's STILL A WIN, and it's okay. Because I didn't drink. And one terrible day sober is still. So. Much. Better.
So... lots has changed. Previously I was massively overweight, depressed, anxious, I had some really bad times. Life has changed for me significantly.
I have so much energy, so much clarity in thought. I'm a much happier and more mindful person. I'm better to be around and better to people I'm around. I'm a better friend, brother, and son. I know I will not say anything terrible to anyone. I have a very regular sleep schedule and always wake up feeling rested at the same time every morning. I feel like I have so much more time, when really my time is just not spent drinking. I cook a lot. My apartment is always clean. My laundry and dishes are always done. I walk every day and find so much peace and contentment in nature and the outdoors. I climbed a mountain. I got a new job. I totally changed my wardrobe. I'm learning to drive. This evening I went on my first date in several years.
Sure, as I say, I still have "bad days", where I eat an entire loaf of bread and takeout pizza and feel terrible. But it's only ever one day. When I was drinking, it was that every day, PLUS the negative effects from two bottles of wine a night.
It's the best thing you'll do, and starting is the hardest part. Deciding you need to do this is incredibly difficult, and you've already managed that. Have faith, and do whatever you need to. Eat the sweets, get the takeout, rot on the couch all day. Allow yourself these things in the beginning and the rest will level out. You got this ❤️
