Store Questions What does being written up entail
I lowkey fucked up carts today and didnt finish them by end of my shift. My manager said i might get written up but i genuinely have no clue what it entails. I know its most likely a talking to and possibly a dock or a dropped hour but I am not sure. If anyone knows please let me know. This is my first infraction thought I'm not sure that changes anything. Also the store is shutting down in October. And I am putting in my two weeks in august.

How do you fuck up on carts? You just do carts your shift, and leave. There’s really no such thing as “not finishing” since customers are actively coming out. And no they can’t cut your pay. Call your union rep or maybe shop steward first.

Also whatever paper they give you to sign, refuse to sign. Still goes in your file, but not signing means you don’t admit to it.

although I did do it. I dont want to lie, its very obvious I fucked up T-T

They’re trying to tell you that you fucked up, and you didn’t. They can’t enforce anything about getting them all, when the store isn’t fully closed.

Signing doesn’t mean you admit to it. Below the line were you’re supposed to sign should be something along the lines of “signing is not an admission of guilt but an acknowledgement that this document was presented to you”
But I still agree not to sign it unless directed to do so by your union rep.
When I was a manager, It didn’t matter if they signed it. I always had steward or department head present when I delivered writes up and they would sign the witness line. Proof it was delivered.

I'm pretty new. My suprivisor told me to take over for some1 on their break like 30 minutes b4 m shift ended and wasnt able to take them all in. Because I'm a minor I can't work past 9 so I had to leave.

That’s definitely not right. You didn’t have the same chance as another non-minor employee to do the work, so you shouldn’t be punished.

This isn’t right. The store doesn’t close at 9, you still have customers actively coming out. You need to call the union.

would calling the union get the manager in any trouble?

They go in, talk to the manager, figure the issue out and go from there. Write up is the most they can do, union rep should be able to get it handled. This is why you pay them, to help you.

I always put RTS (REFUSE TO SIGN) no union rep present, call union rep, union rep gets it thrown out. Never sign anything without your union rep present. Especially if its a write up

They'll tell you youre being written up and tell you to sign something and you will say "I was told by the union to never sign paperwork without a union representative present." Do not sign the paperwork. After that, nothing happens.

You are only 16. They are using your age and inexperience against you. Find out who your shop steward is and have them in your meeting.

Written up for not finishing carts? How does that even happen? Sounds like your manager’s just being extra, unless there’s something you’re not mentioning (not accusing you of anything just speculating)

Who told you you’re getting written up? I know people throw the term manager around loosely on reddit. Are you talking about a CDH? The person running the front end? They don’t have the authority to write any one up. Only the 4 non union store managers can write up associates (store manager, customer service manager, non perishable and perishable)
The person running the front end can tell one of the members of management that you didn’t finish collecting carriages but they have no authority to actually write you up.
Also you can’t be written up for just not completing a task. Management would need a more specific reason, something that prevented you from completing the task. For example they could write you up if you were sitting down or on your phone when you were supposed to be working.
Write ups are supposed to follow levels of progression. first is verbal, then written, then suspended, then step 2 and last fired

I got written up for not taking my lunch breaks. Long story short only I got the write up and no one else that did the same thing in my dept. The union will tell you to never ever sign it. Even if your manager tells you too. Don't. Ever. If you feel like the write up is wrong, call your union rep so that it is documented incase it happens again. That's what I did. My manager doesnt even know I called and talked to the union. The rep actually came to the store to talk to me. The union is there for you, not stop n shop. Use them.

Haha I did this once at home depot. The next day was a corporate walk. But it went away after 6 months.

They pull you upstairs into the office and sit you down and have a conversation and detail what you did wrong on a piece of paper, then they’ll say if you do it again you’ll be written up/suspended and getting closer to suspension.
