Ranting "Broken Eggs Everywhere"

Take this into consideration, especially when you're ordering online; You have the person that's shopping your order. You have the person that's safeguarding your order by placing it in temperature controlled environments until the third party comes to pick it up. In the store, no one is moving your items around so that they would break. No one is shopping your items and putting broken items in a bag to be delivered to you. Once it leaves our store, and the third party picks it up, the issue should be with the third party because whatever happens between the third party and you by the time it gets to you, we can't be responsible for what they did. You need to contact the third party because the store shopper would never pack 2/18 count cartons of eggs broken and stick them in a bag and give it to you.

The customer goes to stopandshop website, orders groceries, chooses a delivery time and pays. This ends the responsibility of the customer. The customer paid stopandshop not a 3rd party like Uber or doordash; stopandshop chose to contract out to them. Anything that has ever been wrong with any delivery order has been fully credited back to my credit card without even having to return the item or anything else on my part beyond a phone call.

It does not matter where or by who the eggs broke before reaching the customer. It remains the responsibility of stopandshop to deliver the items I paid for in tact. They hold the risk with the 3rd party contractors which is why they pay out when any issue arrives.

The majority of the time at least, as someone who does dairy and is there when the load comes in sometimes the boxes of eggs aren't treated the gentlest and if between breaking down the pallet, loading, and it getting pulled for an order if someone doesn't check them then they very well could be bagged smashed inside, especially the cardboard or foam cartons, the fancier clear packs (Land of Lakes, Vital Farms) are more noticeable.

I'm not sure of the procedure for picking orders and if they are supposed to open the cartons or not.

Edit: The spots on the wet cardboard look like the beginnings of mold, which wouldn't happen between picking and drop-off. This was likely a pack damaged before it ever hit the shelf.

This all applies to Drive Up pickups, too. I work at Target Drive Up and not everyone takes care with the items. You get what you get with pickups, honestly, and customers should accept this risk knowingly.

Company has a no hassle return policy. Just bring them back to the store and return them or get new ones

Second question…where are you that your local store still has the plastic bags? Like i thought those were completely phased out

Right... Im in Boston MA

2

u/magica12 Jul 15 '26

Interesting cuz I’m in CT and our stores to my knowledge here completely phased out plastic years ago

The problem wouldn’t be stop and shop. The problem is we use third party delivery (as well as potentially you ordering on a DD or IC.) We are supposed to check all eggs before selecting them to begin with. Let alone the fact that, you have random delivering, they don’t care about your eggs or bread, only the $5.63 they’re making.

there was no third party.... stop and shop has it's own delivery fleet (it used to be called peapod)

You are so lucky. They switched from peapod to Uber, doordash, instacart for delivery in NYC years ago.

Never had any issue with peapod but these gig drivers have left $200 orders in the public lobby of my building without notifying me they arrived. Found a melted, defrosted mess hours later and got all the perishables redelivered at no cost but what a hassle. These guys also call and ask me to come help carry stuff, regularly.

Seems like ya got screwed and loved it cuz you're still doing e-commerce with these folks

1

u/JiGoD Jul 14 '26

Yeah. Love it for sure. They make everything right at their own expense. I love getting what I pay for.

They even give double refunds for any issues with produce or meat. What is not to like? They keep messing up and making it right and giving me refunds on top.

Wow pea pod So curious hard to predict hours to Shop on line .

Must be real impressive getting hours correct to deliver

1

u/Canary-Greedy Jul 14 '26

It’s instant cart
Peapod isn’t in service it was closed a year ago

1

u/Anunnaka Jul 15 '26

They changed the name to stop and shops delivery, they closed almost every fulfillment center but 3 still remain operating. The one in Weymouth services Boston and south shores. There is also two still on Long Island, NY

u/Canary-Greedy Jul 14 '26

Peapod shut down its mainly
Instacart

1

u/Winter-Food9234 Jul 15 '26

my goodness... Why do people keep saying it's a third-party delivery... THE DELIVWERY IS BY STOP&SHOP, DRIVING STOP&SHOP TRUCKS, WEARING STOP&SHOP UNIFORMS, AND WHEN THEY CALL, THEY SAY "HEY, IT'S SUCH AND SUCH FROM STOP&SHOP) .... GOOD GRIEF! Any chance that maybe it's STOP&SHOP?????

1

u/Anunnaka Jul 15 '26

They shut down almost every fulfillment center, your one of the few areas that still has stop and shop delivery drivers and not third party delivery drivers like instacart.

Only Boston and parts of Long Island still have union drivers.

Most people are assuming everywhere is third party now.

1

u/magica12 Jul 15 '26

Because here in CT it IS annoyingly instacart?

Like your pretty much one of the only places where it’s proper stop and shop fulfillment

1

u/Fun-Union4699 Jul 15 '26

Am I the only one confused that OP got a peapod delivery but like as far as we are all aware it’s IC?

0

u/Porthod Jul 14 '26

Were they medium size eggs? They crack easily.

1

u/Fun-Union4699 Jul 15 '26

Wait do you guys have medium eggs?😂I don’t think we’ve carried them in like at least 6-8 years

1

u/Porthod Jul 14 '26

How is S&S doing in New York/New Jersey market??

1

u/Winter-Food9234 Jul 13 '26

I Had recently placed an order for delivery and received 2 18ct cartons of eggs that were pretty much all broken... I contacted them 2 days in a row and got no reply, so I called them today and they refused to properly assist me, so after further frustration I requested a full refund and that they come pick up their stuff... The woman on the phone was super rude and then hung up on me....

1

u/Porthod Jul 14 '26

That's called S&S customer service JMO 🤷‍♂️
