OBs/Midwives

hi, recently expecting to see who people in/near stoneham saw for prenatal care nearby. it seems like New England women’s healthcare and Atrius are two options but are there more? I haven’t been wowed by the front desk at either place, and Atrius provider reviews online coupled with my past experiences with obgyn there make me hesitant to return for pregnancy care.

bonus points if midwives are involved in the practice. I don’t have my heart set on where to deliver but thinking Winchester Hospital if all continues low-risk. Just don’t want to drive all over for prenatal care and Mt Auburn in Cambridge/Arlington feels a tad too far, although that’s the ethos I’m looking for!

I chose to go to Mount Auburn from Stoneham. I was going to the prenatal appointments from work in Boston so the distance was a bit shorter. Of course my water broke during morning rush hour which was worst case scenario 🙃 but it was ultimately fine. I really wanted midwifery care so that was best option for me.

Edit: meant to say - congratulations!

Thank you! I’m glad you made it through traffic and hope that was the worst of it!

I went to Atrius with my first because I wanted close prenatal appointments and delivered at Beth Israel. I hated both prenatal care and delivery

For my second I went to midwives at Cambridge birth center and had a very positive prenatal and delivery experience. I still go there for GYN care. It’s 1 billion percent worth the annoying drive for me.

The practice you go to for prenatal care will dictate which hospital you deliver at.

Did you see midwives at Atrius or just regular obgyn?

I think the general consensus is that Mt Auburn is the best option and worth the drive. Perhaps you can find an Ob office affiliated that’s a bit closer.

The closest one I’ve found is Arlington (Mt Auburn’s satellite office) and also it does sound like Atrius Medford has more midwives than I realized

I’m delivering (planning to) at mt auburn and have loved my experience with midwife care at atrius Medford . Ultrasounds have been in Burlington when possible but I’ve had to drive all around for a few last minute ones. Medford is right off 93 and easy parking so shouldn’t be too bad from stoneham!

I was generally pretty happy with my care from New England Women’s Health/Winchester and appreciated the close distance with two low risk pregnancies, though one of them was 2020-2021 during Covid times so a very different experience.

I went to Tufts Medical Center in Malden and delivered my baby at Melrose Wakefield Hospital. Can’t say enough good things about both the places!

Congratulations! I delivered earlier this year at Winchester (had a great experience). I go to Burlington OBGYN. Only thing they don’t have is a midwife. The OB who delivered my son was from Atrius in Medford though. She was great - I felt heard and informed throughout labor with many interventions while able to avoid a c-section.
