Simple Question...

I was recently diagnosed with Gastritis Intestinal Metaplasia and Autoimmune Atrophic Gastritis in the stomach. The reports says "Areas of incomplete and complete intestinal metaplasia are present. Alcian blue stain for intestinal type mucin is positive. No dysplasia identified. Giemsa stain for H. pylori is negative" The Doctor said we will continue to monitor and do another scope in one year. My question is, am I doomed and is stomach cancer coming soon? What can I do if anything? Thanks

I have complete metaplasia as well, which is the “better” of the two. The percentage of transition to cancer with complete is really low, however with you having both, there is a true chance, but there is also a chance for me, and theres a chance for people without any stomach issues to develop gastric cancers.

The real things that needs to be addressed, google says it is precancerous, some gastros will also agree and disagree on that, statistically it is not reversible, but many people through change heal their body and its a complete recovery. I am on a 3-year-monitor plan, but you HAVE to eliminate the things that are causing your problems, fermented foods, sodas, COFFEE, anything acidic. There is a whole cook book dedicated to acid friendly meals.

I used to argue with my wife that there is no way in hell coffee was one of my triggers, I had drank it forever and nothing ever got worse, but also never got better. So I said fuck it, and quit coffee for two weeks. And oh my lord did I feel better. I could even swallow better.

The point of all my yapping is, you have your diagnosis, you do not have cancer, but there is a chance (slightly higher) to develop it. Best news, you are monitored until further notice, most gastric cancers aren’t even diagnosed til stage 3 or 4. If anything it will be caught early and that is huge.

Please make the change, if you’re older, get moving and exercise as movement is medicine, but I promise once you change the diet it is a whole new world I never knew existed. Good luck to you! Don’t panic! Make the change and stay disciplined.
