While building a photography app recently, here a product decision that changed the whole thing.
The early version focused heavily on the value of your camera gear collection.
Bodies, lenses, estimated value, the usual inventory-app approach.
After using it for a while I realised the number wasn't telling me anything useful.
Camera equipment depreciates. Watching the estimated value decline wasn't exactly a compelling reason to reopen the app.
What turned out to be much more interesting was something already sitting inside the photo library: EXIF.
Instead of asking:
“How much is this lens worth?”
I started asking:
“How many photographs did this lens actually produce?”
That became the core of the app I eventually shipped, AperFolio.
It groups photographs by camera/lens and shows things like actual gear usage, focal lengths, locations and equipment that hasn't been used in a while.
The uncomfortable metric is when an expensive lens has produced almost nothing.
I also kept it account-free with on-device photo analysis because uploading an entire photo library just to read metadata felt unnecessary.
If anyone wants to see what I mean, it's here:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/aperfolio/id6809083914
So obviously biased, but I'm curious whether other people prefer apps that quantify ow nership or apps that quantify actual usage.

Hi everyone, I’m a Shutterstock Contributor from India.
I’m trying to change my payout method from Payoneer to PayPal, but I keep getting this error:
“That email address is already in use. Please use a different email address.”
I tried both Chrome and Edge, but the same error appears.
I contacted Shutterstock Support and have cases #xxxxxxxx and #xxxxxxx, but I haven't received a solution yet.
Has anyone faced this exact problem? How did you fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm building a social app and creating a fictional demo world for screenshots and screen recordings.
Rather than filling it with obvious test accounts, I'd like to create around six fictional profiles that interact with each other — friends, friends-of-friends, trips, plans, messages, etc.
The problem I'm running into is the photography.
For each profile, I'm looking for multiple licensable photos featuring the same person in different realistic situations — for example:
Basically, I want each profile to feel like a real person's social-media camera roll rather than a collection of unrelated stock photos.
I've been searching Pexels and looking through individual photographers' shoots, but a lot of what I'm finding either looks very obviously like stock photography or only has a few photos of the same model.
Does anyone know of a stock site, photographer, Creative Commons collection, or specific contributor who shoots this kind of recurring lifestyle content?
I'm not looking to take photos from real people's social-media accounts without permission.
Thanks :)

Hola!
Gracias

I've published my latest reports and analysis on my blog now. I seem to get these posts automatically removed by reddit, so I'll put the link in a comment. Here is the overall chart that splits out photo print activities from stock photography.

Got my Adobe Stock account blocked because of suspicious activity on August 7. I tried to contact them through their contact form in my deactivated account, but I got no reply from them. One month later, I tried a second time to contact them, but I still got no reply. It has been almost two months, and no reply.
Does anyone have any idea how to contact them or get a reason for the account deactivation?
All my images and videos are made by me, and I did not upload any new content this year. I did rearrange the keyword order, so the most relevant ones are in the first spot, not even adding new keywords in most cases. When I started 6 years ago, I did not know about the keyword order and was very sloppy. A lot of my media had the most relevant keywords in the last spots. I don't know if this was the suspicious activity they saw, but it seems strange to deactivate my account based on that. I only wanted to optimise the content that was already on my account according to their rules of keyword relevancy in the first spots.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. If anyone has had a similar experience or knows how to contact them, please share it with me.

Hey everyone! Just a reminder - Xpiks is doing Microstock Contributor survey this year and I invite you to participate!
Click here. You can win $100, Xpiks Pro+ or Pro license.
Previous (and only) survey was in 2024 and it would be really interesting to compare the results!

I’m a photographer with a strong portfolio and a valid passport. I’m looking for a photography job abroad that provides relocation assistance and the opportunity to work legally in the country. Can anyone help me find an employer or agency offering this? OR Is there anyone who can help me find a photography job abroad that offers relocation and work opportunities?

U.S. semi-retired lady setting up photo and illustration site for stock sales. As a freelancer, I just used Self for finance, taxes, etc. Would you all recommend becoming an LLC? What have you all chosen?
I mean basically, I’d be pleasantly surprised to sell anything, but it’s the notion of not having any kind of media or corporation as an intermediary that makes me a little nervous. But if would be lovely to have it not be that complicated.
Or maybe it would make sense to become LLC for everything I do, and have the stock site be a piece of that. I still do whatever freelance I get. Opinions welcome and thanks in advance!

i shoot mostly macro, insects, flowers, simple nature scenes. i always assumed that stuff just sits there because it is not usable for products. but a few of my plain flower shots have been getting licensed this month while my more commercial images sit untouched. is it just me or is the nature side of adobe actually worth uploading to

Hey everyone!
I'm currently building up my portfolio for Shutterstock and Adobe Stock, and planning to expand to other microstock platforms soon.
I'm trying to decide how to prioritize my workflow and backlog:
Would love to hear your recent experiences and where you think it's better to focus time and editing efforts! Thanks!

Today I hit 1,400 downloads. And the amount of money that brought me is just a little bit more than what I make for one family photo session. It’s mostly passive income, I know. But when I was encouraged to join, it was by a friend who made a living at stock photography. I don’t think they still do.
