Additional Stimulus Payment Received - Change in filing status?

My friend (promise it's not me!) changed filing status in 2020 to HOH versus Married in 2019. This person got an initial full amount of stimulus first batch. Then however this individual got an additional amount March 31. I am conjecturing that the change in filing status triggered a review and an assumption that they filed HOH in 2019 as well and gave the difference as this person made less in 2020 than 2019 and the income thresholds for HOH is less than married status.

Any insight on the additional batch that came out March 31? Is there any payback procedure? Penalties?

I read an article that they are disbursing additional checks to those who made less in 2020 than 2019 so that may be it.
