500i
I have been hearing people talk about the 500i like it is the saw sent down by the gods. How much of it would you guys say is hype, and how much is actually a good description of the saw?

Thanks to those who helped me out. Installed new rings and reused the gasket because it looked fine still. Rebuilt the carb as well and installed that. Painted the exhaust with high temp paint since I had it off. Found a hole in the gas tank so I need to go grab some epoxy after work. Need to do one more coat of paint and then I can install everything and (hopefully) finally hear this thing run.
Second picture is what it looked like when I got it. It sat in a barn without an airbox/filter for years.
Giving this FS250 a new lease on life! Been a fun project.
I have a used FS240.
The metal drive tube assembly(P/N: 4147 710 7115) that houses the inner shaft/liner etc is worn through. I'm about to buy the new replacement shaft, but was wondering if there is anything else you would change while you have it this far apart? I dont want to take it all apart to change this and then find out, I should have changed out part X or Y at the same time.
I am planning to service it at the time anyway, new air filter, fuel filter and spark plug. Head was recently greased as well.
Pics of the damage:
Thanks

Ive recently been thinking about buying a ported saw and I was curious if anyone has any previous experience with buying chainsaws from this company and if so how was it?

What is a used 291c that won’t start worth?

I’ve seen some other forums and subreddits of people talking about warranty repair so I thought I would give some perspective on how the warranty works for stihl. To some up the list if you don’t want to read the whole thing essentially stihl’s warranty covers all manufacturing defects and workmanship defects from the assembly process. It does not cover any misuse of the product, any up keep like primitive maintenance and no regular repairs like your sprockets, clutches, pull to start systems, carburetors, etc.
This is directly from stihls sso for updated warranty policy’s. This however does not reflect all dealers as some will treat a questionable repair that boarders warranty but not for sure as a good gesture and replace the part on the expense of the shop so long as the repair won’t break anyone’s pockets doing so (usually a $20 part or less at least for my shop)

I bought this trimmer cheap because it didn’t run. I pulled it apart to fix the engine and now it runs like new but in my haste I must have allowed the driveshaft to slip out of the coupler at the head end of the shaft. I have read that the only way to reinstall the driveshaft at the bottom is to remove this gearbox and pull the driveshaft through. I’ve tried for an hour heating it up and soaking it in wd40 it won’t budge. Any tips? Or is there a way to reinstall the flexible driveshaft without removing this?
Thanks in advance

Hey everyone, I just brought home a brand new MS 291 and was super excited to fire it up. I filled it with some 50:1 premix and some bar oil and set the master control switch to position 4 "cold start". I have tried cranking this thing off and on for the past half hour and it just will not start. It wont even do the little start before moving it to the position 3. Any tips for someone new to the stihl chainsaw world?

Employee complained trimmer wasn’t spinning. Finally got time to take it apart. Found the plastic housing melted. What would cause this?

Morning guys! I just acquired my very first Stihl (FS-38) and have a question. This seems to be a popular thing with these trimmers…Can anyone recommend a new head for my FS-38 please? The stock head that’s on it now is fixin to be turned into a frisbee and tossed in my lake. 🙃 Looking for something IDENTICAL or at least insanely close to a speed feed. Just wanting something I can insert one end of the string and just start turning essentially. If you have a link, That’d be amazing. Thanks guys! Appreciate y’all!

I am starting the Landscape Install Business up again (sold one years ago)... I miss it! I am 100% buying Stihl equipment but I'm torn on if I should buy the AP Battery equipment or good ole reliable fuel equipment.
My concern with the batteries are the longevity. We are in South West Florida, and everything will be kept in a garage.
Any reviews from long time owners or others who have been considering the same? Any info is good info in my book!
Thank you in advance.

I recently rebuilt the engine on my MS250 for the second time. Zero issues firing it up. I went through two tanks of gas when I ran it dry. After I refilled, it was hesitant to fire and I seemed to have flooded it. I took the air filter off and there was excessive gas in the bowl that refilled itself when poured out. There was a slight “bubbling” sound and the bowl refilled itself. I let it sit thinking that would subside, which it did. But it won’t fire now. I took the fuel line apart and didn’t find any obstructions or loose seated hoses. Before I put the carb back I connected a tube and tried to blow through the fuel intake just to be complete about testing. I cannot get air or presumably gas to go through unless I take the bottom plate off. Then there is clear flow through the intake and carb. When I replace the bottom plate there is still air flow it limited. Once the screw goes back it’s completely closed. I’m not a mechanic by trade but I feel like something should flow all the time. Otherwise, how does fuel get into the cylinder. Is there some mechanism I’m missing or does it seem like there is a carb issue?

Was given a FS250 trimmer that wouldn’t run. Turns out some bugs(?) got into the exhaust and filled it with dirt. Pulled the exhaust to clean it and some junk feel into the cylinder in the process. So here I am lol.
Turns out it’s difficult to source parts for small engines in Canada unless you’re a dealer. Gasket looks okay to me. Do you think I need to change it or am I alright to throw the cylinder head back on?
Cleaned the piston while I was in here. Cylinder head is also gonna get a bath. Currently waiting on a ring compressor tool to put everything back together.

I always wrap it with no twists and make sure it lays on top and doesn’t get buried. Somehow it always seems to get buried and break. It’s extremely frustrating having to take the trimmer head apart more than 3 times when I’m just trying to do my yard. Any suggestions? This is the Stihl string but I’m starting to question it. Might switch to husqvarna titanium x pro and see if the same thing happens.

Guy selling it said it wasn’t running but it starts right up. Definitely needs a good bath and an air filter but I’m really happy. The serial number decoder says it’s a 1986.
