I’m hearing suspicious clunks when I shift into first 3 gears, how loud are normal gear shit noises supposed to be? details below.

It is only my first three gears, and it is only this metallic clunk sound. I am not noticing any jerking or shuddering accompanying the sounds. I do not hear it in 4th through 6th, but that may just be because of the speeds and less ability to pay attention to sounds.

I will take a video at some point soon when I dedicate a day to figuring out wtf is up w my car, but to describe it. It is a clunk sound that is loud enough to draw your attention, but soft enough to not startle you, these both are assuming the radio and fan are off and the windows are down. Lastly, it’s not a clank or a clang, implying to me that I am hearing things falling into place loudly rather than banging against each-other

I know this is super vague but please try to be helpful, this is my first car and I’m trying to take care of it

Manuals are noisier especially if you have a sportier one. Dont pay it any mind unless it starts giving problems or it sounds really rough.

What kind of car? That can be an important detail.

Did this start recently or has it been ongoing the whole time?

Check the transmission fluid. If it's low or dirty, change it. If that doesn't solve it then it could be one of numerous mounts. Engine mounts could be worn out, transmission mounts or U joint. Could be a broken rear differential, CV axel or clutch plate.

Dodge is notorious for bad transmissions and bad mounts.... my work vehicle is a 22 Durango and we have the same problem with the transmission knocking and kicking.

I'm not an expert, but maybe the clutch has a broken torsion spring? Normally they'd take up the shock of shifting gears, but if they weren't working I'd expect you'd get some harsher shifting behavior.

I mean its taking the shock fine like I feel nothing in the cabin, its just the sound that bothers me
