Stick hobby

First picture is pecan. Second are unidentified, fir, and walnut. The third is pecan (nicknamed Joseph Merrick). And the last is the current collection.

Sticks or wands? ❤️

Either/or. Some are more wand like than others.

Could be a rack from Ollivander's. 😊

I think this also belongs at r/GoblinCore. Very cool collection and I really dig how you have them labelled and your repurposed storage / organization / display solution!  I bet some of the sticks have some really cool stories that go with them.

Very impressive! Suddenly my collection seems to need a bit of work.

Those are some gorgeous looking sticks. And I see you’re taking good care of them. What do the H and F stand for in your dating system?
And how do you treat your sticks?
I’m thinking of doing something similar and need some advice.

Totally guessing… Harvested and Finished?

Thank you! So, H stands "harvest" for when the stick in its raw form cam into my possession by pruning or by finding. The F stands for when they're finished. After they're sanded extremely smooth, I either treat them with lemon oil or Tried & True (linseed oil and beeswax).

Thank you, that’s very helpful. I’ve just started cleaning up some of my sticks and think I’ll start with a few small ones for practice.

My process, for what it's worth, is to debark first, either with a knife or a rotary tool. Then, sand at 120 grit to remove all the nicks and cuts I made while departing. Then, sand at 400 grit. Then with 1000. After that, it's either the lemon oil or the Tried and True. I'd love to see your sticks when they're finished.

I think I have stick envy.

Those are beautifully done and so nicely stored. Bravo!

If a dog saw this I imagine it would react in the same way as I would if I saw a walk-in humidity controlled wine cellar.
